The NEA budget is literally 1/3rd of the money spent on military...

If you've never excercised your soul, the arts have no purpose. Doesn't matter either, unless you never seek to truly connect to someone else. Happiness isn't just about money

The silly thing is squabbling over all of this utter nonsense. The budget does not begin to address our $20 tn debt. Just moving federal money from one federal agency to another federal agency. I guess that conservatism now.

Will there be increased federal revenue? We don't yet know. Mulvaney's set up to the whole discussion makes me think he's anticipating increased revenue.

I don't think we are going to revenue ourselves out of this mess. Cuts need to be made to entitlement programs. Until then....yawn. Drops in a bucket.

It's the change in focus. So extreme. I guess I understand the anger over the last 8, as things I care about get brushed off the table during these 4.

The deeper cuts are going to require changes to mandated spending--also signed by Mulvaney.

Sadly this is how elections are won. I still hold out hope for the Senate Republicans. Let's see how similar the actual budget is to Trump's.

Can't do that. Look to even finger bang Social Security or Medicaid/are and the left will grab their ***** hats and hit the streets pissing and moaning again.

Instead.... let's increase defense spending because.... you know... 'Merica.... Fuc# yeah!

Right. It's the left that is blocking SS/Medicare reform. The GOP has the WH, House and Senate. Do f'n work. This ******** of saving a dollar on Big Bird to spend on something else is ridiculous.

The left will never give the right 60 votes to reform SS/Medi. Won't.... ever.... happen.

I agree of the lunacy to rob Peter to pay Paul mentality that's taking place as well.

That's what made the ACA such a BAD idea. It's a NEW entitlement. Repealing those subsidies.... good luck with that.

It doesn't matter what Trump promised... wants to do... doesn't want to do...etc. It all boils down to the Senate and what you can convince those old codgers to do.

NK, Russia, China, ME--you don't think these are legitimate threats to national security necessitating a return to the multi-theater philosophy requiring increased spending?

Why stop at the spending increase he suggested? Let's triple it!

Correcting the trend has to start somewhere, This is the best place to start. Now, let them look at absolute agencies to see what they are providing. That would be another step in the right direction. The Wall and needed infrastructure may also take a bite, but the only way out is thru growth in revenue and cut expenditures. Hopefully this administration remembers to do cuts when new revenue starts coming in. Dems always find a new project to "invest" in with new and added revenue.

As one comedian said. Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a jet ski, and jet ski's make me happy as hell.
Comedy is an art, imo....and every time we laugh, we excercise the soul. Might sound like hippy dippy bs, but it's true as a mother fvcker

Coop's right, unless we ultimately do something about entitlement spending we're just running like Hamsters on a wheel. However the first rule of thumb when you're in debt is to stop deficit spending.... stop spending on what you don't don't need, stop spending on what you can't afford, just stop spending what you don't have!

Unless we stop deficit spending (on all programs including Defense) and start increasing revenues while further reducing spending (including on entitlements) you will NEVER pay down 20 Trillion dollars in debt.

I'm not sure we ever will anyway, but unless we have leadership in both parties willing to admit this is our only prescription we will never get across that bridge.

No one's asked me, but if I were in charge I'd voucher all Federal programs, means test all recipients, and as much as possible put people in charge of what they need (buying retirement insurance, health insurance, medicine, food, education, etc) instead of Government bureaucracies.

Why don't we trust the folks? Isn't it our money?
