Good morning folks. Week is flying by. Work is keeping me busy...

Another crisis inside the family. My wife's stepfather has been dealing with Parkinson's. The meds caused his BP to crash and we took him to the hospital over the weekend. I really expected they'd stabilize him. and have him back home -- he's "only" 76. But nothing seems to be working, so my wife is over there every evening late, and back in the morning. I stop by after work. This getting old is as bad as they warn you it will be.

Temps still hanging around freezing in the east. I'm over the snow, but it isn't ready to be done with us yet. Nothing more visually depressing than grayish snow remnants hanging on from a couple back-to-back snowstorms. That's all the grim news I got. I'll spare you all the account of almost being knocked off my feet by the stench of a bum I passed on the way to the office this morning, marinating in filth, sitting in a folding chair he'd stolen from some homeless shelter... Well, I guess I couldn't help myself.

Have a great day folks!

Morning D-Legionnaires!

***I got nothing.***

Just bumping the thread.

You grinders get busy out there and to all God Bless.

HAHA, that's (Not getting political) like saying the P can't jap slap a D straight to their face.... (Apologies, it's just what I thought of...)

Anyway,

Good morning for a few more minutes. I just got back from dropping My Darling off at the Sauna she has found. She never gets anything for herself but she found a good holiday deal at this joint and is enjoying herself. I am thankful...

Anyway again, I am home for a bit and I will leave about 2 and go pick her up and take her to an early supper...

Have a goodun....

"This getting old is as bad as they warn you it will be.' But young folks are in such a hurry to grow up.......

Yes Sir,

It seems to me I was born old(er). I have always been told I am well grounded. I tried thinking like an adult while I was a teen. I was just never a hanger-on or follower. I tried thinking for myself. That said, had My Darling not loved me, I'd be a mess right now. She gave me all the things I did not have...

My Darling and I have our health problems but they've been manageable so far but we see where at some point we will be needing surgeries and other things we have not had to have yet. (I say that guardedly.) (I am 64, My Darling is 68 but looks early 40's at most. (I'd say 35 and wouldn't be very wrong.) Yeah I am lucky that way too. Again thankful.) My Darling has a medical appointment tomorrow I will be with her at that may change what I just typed. I too have an appointment tuesday that will tell if I need a surgery now or later.

Me being the youngest by a lot (About ten years) in my family see's me looking at my brother and sister hoping all stays well for them. Mom and Dad have been gone over twenty years now.

I will stop saying again, I am thankful. God has been so good to me. If I lost it all tomorrow and I was not thankful, I'd be so very wrong. Take care all...

OLD...? Some days I feel it worse than others. Yet, at 68 I am blessed to still be able to do the things I love. Playing ball (in a tournament this weekend in Chickasha Ok), fishing (just renewed license this morning), workouts/walking monster daily, and teaching/testing karate. Testing a couple of students tonight (one to black belt, and another to brown).

Have not been to a doctor since my blood pressure spike (212/140, something like that) three years ago next month. They put me on medication (too many side effects) to help (it did a little) but when I called to get prescription renewed and them telling me each time it will be sent to my pharmacy the next day and three times that did not happen, I quit trying. I monitor checking it periodically now (monthly) and the worse has been about 150/90. Most of the time it is around 130-140/80 something. Checked it Monday and it was 134/82. Decided to check again yesterday evening and it was 122/78. Probably need to calibrate the BP machine after that one.

Hello all. Been a couple of weeks since I have visited. Have had a bad cold for those 2 weeks and still coughing up nastiness. Posted a few times about games but not a lot. Wife has to have a pacemaker next Friday and I just lost my last aunt on Tuesday. At least a plane hasn’t crashed into the house.

Morning D-Legionnaires!

47° this morning with light winds. Today's high around 80°.

Got back late last night as there were more testing than I was originally told. Some good sparring especially from the girls/ladies. They were going at each other pretty good. No serious injuries but a couple were limping when it was over.

Should be a full weekend as I have a coed softball tournament tomorrow and plan on getting my first fishing trip in Sunday morning.

You folks finish the work week and be safe out there.

God Bless.

Hello all,

Just did my workout. (One where I wasn't interupted, go figure... A "retired" guy getting interupted during his workout.) About the first time since I retired....

Drinking coffee. My Darling has a doctor appointment early this afternoon.

Cleaning my office a little more. You would not believe the lego's all over "our" office...

Have to pick up the BB from school as his Mom is taking a test for her Nurse Practioner course. (Almost complete.)

As MdW stated above it is a little cold to do the house work I want to do outside.

I am getting reaady to fully digitize all our home movies and video's. I have a couple boxes of VCR tapes I think many will just be trashed as I have most of the movies now but I do have some that have video's from my children growing up. I need those digitized and since I did that "stuff" I think I can do it again one more time...

Also sent a load of "stuff" to my four grand babies in Florida. Their Mom will pick it up later today for them. The stash includes: Utz cheese balls, Goldfish, Orville redenbacker popcorn, Some Jolly time popcorn for their hotair popper, Whoppers, and M&M's.... (All the giant sizes...)

My son asked me if I got some whoppers for him. I said NOPE... Both boxes are for Lucas.... "He shares's"....

You know, the snacks of Champions.....

Papa's Babies...

Papa's rights!!!

Good morning everyone.

I'm getting in the required coffee before daylight this morning. I'll be off for some more trail maintenance work and hoping I can get back in time to watch the start of the game. Lost another good friend yesterday. That's the price I pay at being an old soul for most of my life. He was 21 years older than me.

I would talk a little about the game, but what do I know? What does anyone know about this team? I just hope they/we can get some revenge, look good, and feel good as they get close to the post season. There's really not too much to get excited about at this point. But, .......you never know.

Enjoy this beautiful weather day (if you're in KY).

Morning D-Legionniares!

55° this morning with the high around 80° with light to moderate winds expected.

Leaving here in about an hour headed for Chickasha OK (about 30 minutes from me) to play in a coed tournament. It starts at 0800 (yeah I know, rather early) and ends at 1900 (final game starts) if we get that far. It is a double elimination so we at least get two games in.

I will have to catch the game on here in RR when I get back.

For most of you it is a rest day so here is to hoping you have a restful day and God Bless.

Oh yeah, GO CATS!

Good morning folks.

Happy Saturday. Heading out for a run in what I hope is a bit warmer weather. Then I think my wife and I are going to go into DC, to see some new exhibits at the Smithsonian and walk around Capitol Hill, a nice part of the city where we lived before we had kids.

Good chance for the Cats to right the ship today. I wish I felt more confident than hopeful, but hope is a good thing.

Have a great day.

Have a great day MdW.

I do have a question, not sure if you can answer it but I will ask it.

Is Union Station in better shape now safety-wise? I think it is... (Why do I ask?)

My oldest and my grand daughter like to get out and do things.

I still have four free rides on the VRE I accumulated over the years. I was thinking of giving them to my daughter so they could take the VRE to the end and come back. I know Union Station had some nice eateries from what I look at online.. Just a change of something to do as my daughter and grand daugther like to do "stuff" like that.

Just typing out loud...

Hello all,

My Darling is at a Ladies church conference at our church. (About 1500 feet away from me.) ;)

I am waiting for the BB to arrive but I think him and his Mom slept in... I am drinking coffee but I think I will be at the BB's pleasure when he arrives. In the interim I am picking up and cleaning up and drinking coffee.

Have a fine and Christ-Blessed day...

BB -- I work not that far from Union Station - close enough to stroll down that way once in a while -- and I'd say it is very safe.

That end of Capitol Hill is where I lived from the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s and property values were going up fast, rich yuppies were moving in (not me, I was a renter) and it was becoming a place where you could enjoy life quite a bit.

The train station has a fair amount of retail, places to eat and so on, though it never really caught on as a retail hub like the city was hoping. But I certainly wouldn't avoid the place out of safety concern. Take them to the Dubliner for a couple beers and some fish and chips. That was one of my hang outs -- After I'd been in the Middle East for SEVEN MONTHS covering Desert Storm I got back to DC on St. Patrick's Day, sporting a deep tan and one of those digital camo ponchos the Army gave pool reporters to blend in, and the Dubliner was my first stop. What a night.

Thanks a bunch for the info but I was going to send them off on their own... It is a straight shot from the Woodbridge Station to Union Station but I think the first train back is at 1. They could make a day of it as the last train runs south near 7PM. (Every 30 or 45 minutes). Thanks again, I will ask her if she'd like the tickets. (I always got off at L'Enfant.) Even when I worked at USDA in the South building for over fve years. I finished my career with the government at the Washington Navy Yard.

Edit:

In case any were intersted, this is the train... The VRE, Bert used to like that picture as did our other Railroad poster...

I have a few other pictures I will post again,....

This is still one of the funniest personalized license plates I can ever remember seeing. Got to laughing so much at the time I had to pull over. Not sure why I laughed that hard but I did at the time...

This is my Dad with his brothers. (My Dad is the upper left.) My Dad was a seventh son of a seventh son. His Dad was the lower right.

They are all gone now. Most of my Dad's brothers died of un-natural causes due to drinking...

Anyway My Dad told me while he was alive that this picture was taken at My Grandpa's house on the Y in Middlesboro. I was in that house one time before it burned down. I was at that fire is about my earliest recollection of anything...

My Grandma was a Laws. Lucinda, My Grandpa's name was Sterl.

Five years or so before I was born...

This was me at about twelve or so years old. This was in Sawanee, TN. (I am the tallest.) I think ATXC either knew or knew of my cousin Virgil (The dark colored shirt.) His brother Gary is in front of me. (Gary did a hitch in prison later on as well. Virgil was nine months older than me but I think he even smoked then. He died at about 28 or so, did a hitch in the Army but drugs took their toll on him. (Not sure who the other two boys are.) We were possum hunting. Ate'em too.

Just came across these and thought I'd share them...

Good morning folks. Cold, steady rain here. I jogged three miles in it and a hot cup of coffee has rarely tasted better.

Wish I could be there to send off Bert at his celebration of life tomorrow. He was an interesting guy who seemed to have lived a full, useful life.

Back to work for me, from home today. I hope you all stay dry.

Sports report: I had a few hit at me like the one above in yesterday's tourney. The last one (in our 5th game of the day) hit me in the left wrist area in the same place I took one in the last tournament I played in last year. Still was wrapping it before play as it had not fully healed. It was hit so hard it bounced off of my wrist straight to the second baseman who then picked it up and threw out the runner going to first. That was the third out so I tried to rubb it and continue. I had a bat at the plate coming up and when I swung to hit the ball it hurt like the dickens and I popped it up. Luckily, it fell down in between short and the outfield so, I got to first but was done for the day.

We went 3-2 for the tournament and placed third as we were ousted in that 5th game. Other than the injury, I had a good day all around. I was 14-1 at the plate with two triples and multiple doubles.

Wife wants to go shopping today so, even though I am a bit tired from playing yesterday and walking the monster for an hour this morning, looks like resting up will have to take a back seat.

@Bkocats Good to see you drop in. Don't be a stranger or stranger than the rest of us here.

I plan to go back there the end of March. I want to visit my Dad's grave in the Shoffner Cemetary. I am overdue doing that.

Hello all,

Just working on my office today after church. I just got a new print device that is also a sheet-fed scanner. I am trying to downsize my boxes of documents from various transactions over the years. The single sheet scanner is just too much to deal with plus it is on it's last legs. (Take that from a brudder who knows and learned these type devices through trial and error over hundreds of devices in my work life. ;) )

That's my story and I am sticking to it. It may work out today I am on the last fixing of my office in a needed sense.

Have a day blessed by God and get some rest too...

That is exactly my memory of what it was too. My Aunt (Virgil's Mom) told me if I killed it I was eating it. Back then you actually lsitened to and respected your elders... ;) (Will not comment on whether I liked it or not but I did eat it and a goodly amount too.)

I cannot tell you how many times I walked under that mountain through the train tunnel from the Gap to Middlesboro (The Y.) with my BB gun... Just a bunch as we lived in the Gap for near a year... Over that place that used to be a gas station. I think I was in one of the last classes at that one room school house too. I think it was the third grade...Then we mopved to Noetown, the other side of Middlesboro...

Take care!

Hello to all the old timers and new timers, visitors and rivals. A nice win over Vandy and now it's on to College Station.

Hey sweet lady. Long time, no see. Fondly remember our get-together at Bert and Sherry's years ago. Sadly, Bert passed away.

My wife is also ill with cancer. We hope she lives until at least summer. She's bedridden. I retire again end of May.

Take care.
Oh Paul I hate to hear that. I’m so sad about Bert. I wish I hadn’t disappeared like I did
Much love to you
