I'm bitterly disappointed it's not going to be Idris Elba.
I thought it would be an obese one legged autistic black gay trans man

Not familiar with him but also haven’t seen one of those movies since sky fall. Idris Elba is almost 60 isn’t he? Makes sense they went with a younger guy
I forgot about him being on The Office. I was skeptical about him being able to play Bond until I watched Luther. I think he'd have been excellent in the role of Bond. I used to work with a Brian Bond. He'd introduce himself to people as Bond, Brian Bond. It was funny the first couple of hundred times. Good dude though. I liked working with him.
Considering the reaction from people when they found out a black woman played a spy in the last one, the producers were probably terrified they'd be murdered.
They didn't need to kill Bond in the last one.

There’s no need for a black bond. It’s utterly ridiculous. Have a franchise with 009 or whatever and do it that way. The character is James Bond a white British dude. It’s a simple lucrative solution
This. Bond is a literary character with distinct characteristics. It’s fine to make a spy movie with a black guy. Just call it something else.

I always thought that when James died in " No Time to Die" when the next movie came out the new Character wouldn't be named James Bond but have the 007 number so any race of an actor could take the role. But I guess the name is too iconic not to keep the name James Bond and his physical characteristics.
I think Johnathon Torrens should play Shaft and Superfly.
Definitely no reason to do it solely for that reason. But idris elba was a grand slam choice for that role regardless of race.
I guess this guy is as good as any because it will take a movie or two to get over the Daniel Craig hangover. Doubt anyone matches him, but coming immediately after is just brutally tough.
They really need to get rid of that exclusivity requirement. That will keep them from getting the talent they need. Hardly anyone of any decent marketability is going exclusive nor should they.
10-15 years ago he'd have been perfect. But he's north of 50 already, that's retirement age for a Bond actor.
I do hope we get more of the suave, ladies man Bond this time. Daniel Craig was a nice change of pace after how overly silly and pretty Bond had gotten, but I also hoped the character would grow into the more confident and charismatic agent across his movies, and he didn't. Casino Royale was great but Skyfall should have been the end of Craig's Bond, it was an endpoint and what came after was just.... meh.
For a while they strongly considered making the next 007 a woman. That’s not shocking these days but it would be the worst choice ever so par for Hollywood.

Fun fact... James Bond was based on actor Christopher Lee. Lee had an amazing life up to the point of James Bond being created and Fleming used him as the template for the character.
Maybe. But Ian Fleming's brother Peter had an unbelievable secret-ish military career during WW2. AND he was a very sophisticated writer and novelist.
Maybe? He said he based it mostly on Christopher. You want to talk about the most interesting man in the world... Christopher Lee has to be up there. He joined the Finnish military to fight the Soviets while he was too young to serve in the British army. When he turned 18 he went back to be a pilot but had eye damage during training. So he joined the RAF secret service and spent most of the war all over the world killing Nazis. During Lord of the Rings when his character was stabbed... He told the director "people don't make that sound when you stab them in lungs".
That's just ww2 stuff. Dude was a fencing champion, related to Charlamagne and Catherine the great, witnessed the last public execution in Europe and climbed Vesuvius a few days before the last eruption in Italy. Add in the acting and was even rumored to have been a fine opera singer.... dude was just a renaissance man.
Sure. If you can believe an author when he talks about inspiration. I understand that Fleming also named Hoagy Carmichael as an inspiration as well. (To Have and Have Not)
He said he used over a dozen people he served with in crafting the character but the idea of the character came from Lee..... Or just what I read in an Interview with Flemming. Flemming was married to his cousin and had known him for quite a while.
He was good in Bullet Train and there's about 20 reasons to go with Johnson but I've always been partial to Elba. That felt like an online movement until everyone was like, "eh, he's also in his 50's and unless you do multiple films back-to-back-to-back, you're going to have an almost 60 year old Bond." I don't care though. Give me a grizzled, elder Bond who still looks like he can kick your ***.
Meh. Connery was 53 when he made Never Say Never and he did not look grizzled, he looked old.
