You just made the point that many of us are making. The jury went into the trial with the realization that they had no choice but to vote guilty because the city would be burned down if they didn’t.Not exactly innocent til proven guilty.Imo he was guilty at the most of manslaughter but with the threat of extreme violence against the city or them personally it was no way a fair trialThe other thing that those of you who insist the verdict was tainted seem to either ignore or dismiss is that there was a jury in that courtroom made up of citizens who listened to the evidence. Is there any reason to doubt that they took their responsibility seriously, listened to the evidence and made a judgment based upon that and only that. BTW, does anyone really think that the jurors needed Maxine Walters to talk about what would happen if there was an acquittal? I am pretty sure they had realized that long before she weighed in.
I agree. You just made the point that many of us are making. The jury went into the trial with the realization that they had no choice but to vote guilty because the city would be burned down if they didn’t.Not exactly innocent til proven guilty.Imo he was guilty at the most of manslaughter but with the threat of extreme violence against the city or them personally it was no way a fair trial
What I said to KD and Mac still stands. Were you at the trial or did you manage to watch all of it on closed circuit? the Michael brown grand jury was very likely aware of what could happen if they did not indict Darren Wilson and yet they went ahead and did what the evidence dictated. What makes you think this jury did not have the guts to do the same? You just made the point that many of us are making. The jury went into the trial with the realization that they had no choice but to vote guilty because the city would be burned down if they didn’t.Not exactly innocent til proven guilty.Imo he was guilty at the most of manslaughter but with the threat of extreme violence against the city or them personally it was no way a fair trial
The jury in the Brown jury did not have to go thru razor wire and barricades on their way to the courthouse every day with protesters shouting at them .They also had not lived thru a summer where they saw the city they lived in burning on a nightly basis. No one can make an unbiased opinion when faced with personal threats. They should have moved the trial to another venue and sequestered the jury.Again he probably should have been convicted of manslaughter at the worstWhat I said to KD and Mac still stands. Things are getting worse That jury in the brown trial had not received the amount of poisoning that we all have the past five years. This nation is rotting from the inside out thanks in large part to racial politics. Post Holocaust Jews in Europe just got on with it. Never wanted to be permanent victimsWhat I said to KD and Mac still stands. When confronted with a post that makes you uncomfortable or one that simply gets the better of you, you resort back to “slinging mud” a mild version of the personal attacks you have become known for. Like circle back psaki your job of defending the indefensible is becoming harder every day. It’s taking a toll on raggedy Anne and I fear it’s taking a toll on you as wellquit the overlord ****. believe it or not i am fairly capable of thinking on my own and am happy to debate you on the merits. you seem to feel more comfortable slinging mud.
It definitely takes a toll on her. She cherry picks what to reply to, or like you said, diverts to the “poor me, why you have to call names” game. She’s getting her clocked cleaned on almost everything. If this were a football game, she’d get up looking from her ear hole. When confronted with a post that makes you uncomfortable or one that simply gets the better of you, you resort back to “slinging mud” a mild version of the personal attacks you have become known for. Yeah. These leftists can never admit when they’ve been bested. Laboring James says he took his latest **** down not because he made a fool of himself but because he didn’t want to spread more hate. The worst part is her cohort, the Rev, @Jtre is awol. Proves he knows he has nothing to bring to the table. He spins more than a washing machine, but even he can’t defend what’s being said.
Good post ghostNot that Floyd should have died for what he did. But he wasn't a good person, he had a history of violence against women, robbed and stole for years and stayed in a constant state of impairment due to his own choices. This is why it pisses me off to no end that he was paraded around like a fallen soldier and given 3 funerals where hundreds of people that didn't know him exploited his death for a shitshow of social justice pandering. All in a time where millions of people had to say goodbye to their loved ones through a glass wall and couldn't hold services to pay tribute to their lives. All because he was black and the cop was white without having a shred of evidence that race had anything to do with it. Such garbage.
We all had loved ones get sick ( couldn’t visit them in the hospital) and some that died (no funeral) and this guy gets a funeral in every state he’s ever set foot in. You couldn’t make this up. Only in AmericaGood post ghost

I don't weigh in here often, but do enjoy the thought provoking ideas from both sides. As far as the mechanics of the trial, and the ambience surrounding it I do have one thought-
Maxine Waters comments after the jury had been handed the case were totally unacceptable. She could have commented but done so obviously in a MUCH MORE civilized way as a lawmaker.
Saying "we must be more confrontational" if a not guilty verdict on all counts is handed down INFURIATED Judge Peter Cahill. You could tell he was incensed (but holding it inside), when the defense used her outburst as grounds for mistrial. I think Cahill felt he administered a pretty good trial up to that point. Waters threw a wrench in it enough for Cahill to acknowledge in open court it could be grounds for an appeal. The danger of Waters comments really loomed large as Cahill did not sequester jurors, one tactical error by the judge.
Everybody knew what the outcome was going to be. This was over last summer, and the pressure to convict was too much. A little bit of a cheap shot you're taking at the judge. He was in a no win situation as well. Say what you want, but it's true. The judge also did not allow for the jury to be given transcripts of the trial. If I were @Mac9192 I would probably say the judge knew Chauvin would get convicted but was sympathetic to him so he went out of his way to gift wrap an appeal for him.
Good of you to admit as much. Water's were as bad, and Lebron's were worse, putting police officers lives at risk. He's followed by many. Hard to believe there's people dumber than him, but there are. He fired off his ignorant mouth without knowing the facts, as you did. At least you somewhat walked it back. While I'm at it, let me go ahead and say Nancy Pelosi's comment following the Chauvin verdict couldn't have been more stupid if she actually gathered a group of writers with the goal of coming up with a stupid comment.
The House of Representatives and the Senate epitomizes why there should be term limits. Both sides of the aisle are absolute jokesGood morning. I was busy getting my suits cleaned.
What would you like my comments on?
LeBron's tweet? Yeah, dumb tweet. Put in with his other mentions of accountability, he is clearly calling for the officer to be criminally charged. You're a big proponent of free speech, so you should have no issue with him doing that.
I think LeBron deserves credit for his comments after removing the post.
The "full" video you posted yesterday? Different people are going to see different things. I saw an officer hit the window with his flashlight. I saw officers addressing George Floyd with profanity immediately. I saw an officer draw his gun and place it in Floyd's face within 12 seconds of approaching the vehicle, despite both of Floyd's being visible and him basically cowering and apologizing (presumably for trying to pass the fake $20). I saw officers give him conflicting orders (hands on the wheel, hands on your head, stay in the car, get out of the car).
Did Derek Chauvin get a fair trial? I can't answer that but I have a question. If the outcome is accurate, which even you kinda sorta said, what would a fair trial do? At the end of the day he and others like him need to be prosecuted and sent to prison. At this point I believe the only way to prevent cops from killing unarmed Blacks and other citizens is to start sending them to prison.
A couple other things.
I posted too quick about the Columbus situation. I'll own that. I have other opinions about what may or may not have happened, but yes, if the officer arrived and felt the other two girls were in danger he, apparently under protocol, had the right to do what he did.
About Maxine Waters: I said her comments about this were unnecessary because they were. If you look back through this thread, you can see where I said her comments about getting up in legislators' faces was stupid and wrong. I said that because I believed they were. They were much more direct and clear.
I also don't disagree with the idea that it might be time for her to retire from politics. I don't believe she should be removed, if for no other reason that the bar for membership in congress (specifically the House) has been placed so low that there is no way you could remove her without taking a number of others first.
I just went through the last three pages of posts. Perhaps my saying that you guys had blinders on about the election and that we were all brainwashed to the same degree could be considered a "personal attack," but otherwise I have kept the responses to substantive ones and tried to keep any tone or sarcasm out of them. The fact that I disagree with you does not mean I am insulting you. When confronted with a post that makes you uncomfortable or one that simply gets the better of you, you resort back to “slinging mud” a mild version of the personal attacks you have become known for. I took issue with the “slinging mud”, but overall the debate has been more substantive of late. If you feel the need to call me a right wing douche bag from time to time it’s cool I just don’t want us all to be the worst version of ourselves all the time. People are holding you ACCOUNTABLE for your moronic tweets LaBoring. Isn’t that the real reason you took it down? You couldn’t hold Mjs jock. Never could never will he’s Tom Brady you’re Peyton Manning. What he’s doing is very dangerous, and something should be done. He’s also walking proof that money can’t buy intelligence.

woooooaaaahhhhhh Jtre!!!!!...Manning is my man crush, def Top 3 QB in my book...=)I'm not putting over Jordan, either. But Peyton Manning? Damn. Peyton might be the most overrated professional athlete of all-time.

So I took a look at the Minnesota Court Rules criminal procedure Rule 26. This is what the court is supposed to do when there is a concern that outside occurrences will have tainted the jury:
Subd. 10.Questioning Jurors About Exposure to Potentially Prejudicial Material in the Course of a Trial. If the court determines that material disseminated outside the trial proceedings raises questions of possible prejudice, the court may on its initiative, and must on motion of either party, question each juror, out of the presence of the others, about the juror's exposure to that material. The examination must take place in the presence of counsel, and a record of the examination must be made.
As for providing a transcript of the proceedings to a deliberating jury, subdivision 20(1) governs and it does not allow for that so the court was correct in prohibiting the jury from receiving that during deliberations. The jury can receive a copy of the court's charge and may ask for read back as many times as they need.
It is curious that the trial judge said he thought that Maxine Waters comment could have tainted the jury but then did not conduct a hearing. As for his decision on the transcripts, that appears to be correct.
This is the link, should anybody wish to look for themselves. Also, I don't practice in Minnesota so it is quite possible I am missing something. If any of the posters do practice there, feel free to correct me.
Either I miscommunicated or you misinterpreted, but that was not a shot at the judge. The part about gift-wrapping an appeal was sarcasm. I don't think that happened. I don't think he had ulterior motives for his imo the biggest reason that the appeal might be granted was the judge’s decision to not sequester the jury
nah, just a Colts fans back when harbaugh was QB and Harrison was drafted....Manning never really had a consistent defense...the main guys were always hurt it seemed....he does have more super bowl appearances and wins than brees and rodgersHahaha. You must be from Knoxville or Indy.
For real, I don't dislike Manning, I just always disliked the title people gave him of best regular-season quarterback ever. It was almost like he was so loved that the media had to come up with something to call him since Brady passed him but they wanted to separate him from Brees, Rodgers, etc.
Regarding LeBron's tweet, this was actually the first thing he posted after deleting the accountability one.
Typos aside, this is an acknowledgement that he posted what he did without being aware of all facts.
You could make a case for top 5 def. Brady Montana Unitas. You could make a case for Manning at 4 certainly. If you put him ahead of those other 3 you’re kidding yourselfwoooooaaaahhhhhh Jtre!!!!!...Manning is my man crush, def Top 3 QB in my book...=)
But the Denver d led my von Miller pretty much won him a title to perhaps make up for one he she would have won in Indy. Manning’s presence galvanized the team much like Brady’s did in Tampa this year but the Denver d won that super bowl. Peytons arm was shot.nah, just a Colts fans back when harbaugh was QB and Harrison was drafted....Manning never really had a consistent defense...the main guys were always hurt it seemed....he does have more super bowl appearances and wins than brees and rodgers

I don’t think he’s playing with a full deck. He’s really lacked in being around quality, more mature adults, which would have helped him a lot. He’s given too much reigns, and his ignorance shows all too often. This begs the question: is LaBoring sober when he posts this stuff? For a while I was like “He’s a pretty cool cat. I just disagree with him” kind of like I do with Durham crest and jtre but now I’m starting to wonder “Is this guy playing with a full deck?”
She’s not a lil girl. That’s cute but her actions suggest she was in fact a thug

Jordan wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer either, but he was put around better people. Listen to a video of Jordan his freshman year at Carolina.
the whole story isnt out, but from my understanding those girls came to her home trying to start stuff w/ her or it was the foster home in which they all lived???....hearsay alert....entered the home etc...she got a knife to defend herself......now i and baffled as to why she attacked once the officer got there....maybe she got some courage with his presence, idk....wish she wouldve dropped the knife in her spurt of an attack and got several licks in...i dont think she was trying to stab and she let off a flurry of punches.....to the officer, i def understand his position...sad situation....the adults that were present couldve handled that situation way better imo....16 y/o child, honor roll student unfortunately caught up in a horrific moment...apparently she called the police.....def gotta get all the facts and witnesses...what if the other girls had the knife 1st and she had previously wrestled it away...lots of unknowns just yetShe’s not a lil girl. That’s cute but her actions suggest she was in fact a thug
