Peria Jerry, John Jerry, Jamarca Sanford, Cassius Ware, and Eddie Strong were all SP guys who went to Mississippi and play/played in the NFL. Chris Strong, Chris Herring, Tig Barksdale, and now Snoop all went there and washed out for various reasons. Toward Sanford, Malikia Griffin, and several others had solid college careers there but weren't NFL guys. I know Griffin played in the CFL for a while, though.
We've had Kevin Cooper, Omar Henderson, Demetric Wright, Pegues, Mario Bobo, and Kendrick Market. Cooper was a big part of the '98 SECCG team. JWS always said he wish that he'd redshirted him in '97, because he wasn't fully healthy that year and we could've used him in '99. Omar was mostly a special teams players during that '98 run. DP should've played NFL ball, but couldn't keep it together off the field. Bobo had a solid career until getting inexplicably cut by Crxxms before his senior season. Jury is out on Market's career.
A few others went out of state: Deshea Townsend, Dwayne Rudd, Antuan Bradford, and Chris Young. Deshea & Rudd played in the NFL for a a long time. Bradford and Young had solid college careers but never made the League.
I'm sure I'm missing a few, but those are the ones I remember. Bottom line is they have had plenty of "productive" players from SP, but the talent required to make the NFL is ridiculous. I'd love for us to be able to crack open the pipeline and get a few more of those guys, but I don't think it'll ever happen. There's just too much hometown pressure put on those guys to go wear Confederate Grey. We'll continue poaching one here and there, but the vast majority will always play for Mississippi. It's just that simple. I still believe if Brassell hadn't committed to us so early and followed his heart to come to State, he wouldn't be having some of the problems he's having now.
