who ya got?

the ninja's entry:

cost: 72.3 million

seating capacity added/removed since renovation: -1,371 (overall capacity down to 56,029)

amenities: project with seats and luxury boxes atop a four-story complex housing locker rooms, football offices, a weight training area, a cafeteria for student athletes, the new Sands Club, and new concessions and bathrooms.

facility tour attire:

the grasshopper's entry:

cost: 75 million

seating capacity added/removed: +6,255 (overall capacity up to 61,337)

amenities: project with seats and luxury boxes atop a four-story complex housing visitor locker rooms, the new State level, Scoreboard Club, Gridiron, new concessions and bathrooms, and a large high definition video board.

facility tour attire:

my estimation:

overall value added: advantage grasshopper...cost per seat and what it brings....the grasshopper wins in a landslide.

exterior asthetics: advantage grasshopper (the exterior of arizona stadium looks nice, but i question its longevity and it is asymmetrical...in 25 years, theirs might look like soviet block housing).

interior asthetics: advantage ninja (just looks nice and clean)

premium seating: advantage ninja (although i didnt do a seat-for-seat analysis, the eye test says that sea of chairbacks puts the ninja ahead)

overall cost: advantage ninja...nearly a push and our final numbers arent in (to my knowledge), but they probably have us beat by a couple mil.

visual impact: advantage grasshopper...its night and day

cost per seat added: advantage grasshopper...since arizona lost seats, this was easy.

amenities: advantage grasshopper. states expansion has everything arizonas does except offices, weight room, and cafeteria. it matches the premium seating opportunities in type (not number) and adds loge seating, a field level viewing area, and huge jumbotron just to make sure our fans are saturated with enough ads and atmosphere killing promos to deflate us just when things get interesting on the field.

facility tour attire: advantage ninja. i know what you were thinking....they look exactly the same and upon initial inspection, you would be right, however, the ninja has shades on (indoors no less) and thus the point is awarded to theninja for being slightly less dorky looking.

score:

ninja: 4
grasshopper: 5

i also toyed with deducting additional points because arizona went from natural grass to field turf, but a tie-break was not necessary. where it counts the most, we got the most for our money, added seats, and made the expansion/renovation one of the most dramatic changes in the nation.

well done grasshopper....

if reading this was a big waste of your time, i offer this as a consolation:

I hate the green exterior walls on our addition. Whoever designed those must go.

What's with the fluorescent yellow and green seats? Maybe Lambeau Field has some Maroon and White seats somewhere we can trade them.

Agreed. The in-the-stadium part looks like it was tacked on a la Vaught Hemmingway, and the outside looks like something the Hunter Henry threw up.

Seriously, what's the deal with buttoning the top button these days? Am I behind the times?

(Not a Strick hater--he seems to me to be doing a great job.)

Call me old fashioned, but Grasshopper should have received bonus point for exterior aesthetics and visual impact. The combination of brick, symmetry, and foliage adds some sort of charm to our stadium whereas Arizona looks like a silicon valley company headquarters. It's not ugly, but it definitely doesn't scream college football to me.

the tie-breaker would then go into effect and as stated, that would go to the grasshopper for keeping natural grass.

You analysis contains a major flaw in comparing these two facilities:

If you look at the purpose of the Ninja's construction project, it basically serves the purpose of our endzone expansion + our Leo Seal Football complex. Arizona's facility contains football offices and is their practice facility.

Therefore, you should be comparing our Leo Seal Football Complex & our endzone expansion vs Arizona's endzone expansion.

The winner here is a landslide victory for MSU.

i dont know about that....after a little research, jay-z says its cool. perhaps he is just cutting edge and ahead of the curve.

charlie strong too...

clearly, strong, jay-z, and strick-land are all the same level of cool.

internet research not withstanding, you point is noted and will remain as part of this public record....and so shall it be written.
