The No. 1 thing you need to look at concerning baseball is

among the starting lineup, how many of our players were offered a schollie from one of the sec baseball powers. These guys that are playing right now were recruited on the coat tails of some pretty bad seasons as far as MSU baseball goes. Renfroe, Bradford, and Frazier probably start for most SEC teams and Rea, Slaughter, Detz, and maybe Pirtle start for the mid tier programs. This list is pretty subjective, but for the most part, I think I am right. Todd or someone else can expand on this, but I think that some of our signees and commits we have coming in have more offers from the elite programs. The talent level should improve and hopefully with that, Cohen won't try to over manage the game so much.

We are also running into the same problem we ran into with pitching during Cohen's first couple of years. When your presumptive ace and now the number two guys aren't pitching, things aren't going to go very well for you. I don't know what is up with the sore elbows but we need to get it figured out. I know it isn't from too many innings during games and they only pitch once a week so it can't be from that.

Good point, we underpitch our starters if anything. Seven days is a long time to go between starts especially if you often aren't making it past the 3rd or 4th inning. Now I am getting concerned about the excessive work our long relievers are getting but they aren't the ones coming up with arm soreness. So far its been Woodruff and Lindgren who are both starters.

It's not just our presumptive top 2 that we're missing.

Beginning of the season, it was something like this:

Lindgrin
Woodruff
Graveman
E. Mitchell
Cox
Pollo

Sunday we moved on to I suppose our 7th starter, Bracwell, in a weekend series. We have 4 guys that can't throw a strike to save their lives, can't get out of the first.

Next week, we could be down to what you could call our 8th option as a weekend starter (R. Mitchell) if Lind isn't healthy. That's... something.

I wrote E. Mitchell off at the beginning of last season. When a pitcher is nasty as hell one week and bad news bears bad the next, you can't rely on them and they usually never get it together.

Isn't Stratton a counter-example of that from his Sophomore to Junior year?

Sure, but Mitchell has had maybe two good outings in his career. Stratton had a pretty good freshman year and I think I remember reading that he had some personal (maybe sick family) issues as well. I see your point though, but until a pitcher shows that they can consistently have command, you can't depend on them.
