What is the number of 60 thousand empty seats plus lost revenue from concessions ? For 2 years.
Hopefully someone will attempt to answer this question. While I doubt it will be 60K empty seats, I don't doubt 30K. So, what does it cost UK if 30K fan don't attend a game? Multiply by the number of home games next year and what do you get.
Unfortunately he's not and that's the problem. Any where but UK if an AD does something like that contract he's gone. Mitch knows however that he's untouchable. This is a big problem with UK sports. There is no sense of accountability. MB doesn't have to field successful teams. Stoops is guaranteed a job even if he never wins another game. Even filters down to players. We saw players quitting the team and just stop giving effort and yet they were never benched.Barnhart has tied is all to the mast.
Its actually a big difference. You are not just signing on to 2 years of losing. You are trying to sell recruits to 2 years of we aren't even trying. We are in lame duck status and if you want to get an idea of what just 2 years worth of lame duck status can do to a program then look up SMU football. On the tail end of that 2 years we would get crushed by teams like Charlotte.Well since we have been accustomed to losing basically for the last 60 years...what is two more?

ok, forever less than Kansas. sigh.I remember when Kansas was 12-1 and played in the Orange Bowl in football. I don't remember UK doing anything remotely close to that.
Aren't this years tickets basically already bought? They would already have that revenue. So the bigger impact would be next year with ticket sales. This year would be concessions, UK gear, etc. Although I may be wrong.
Barnhart is going no where. He is signed until 2022.

A member of the BOT who was a finance person told me the royalty sales under Joker actually declined by about three million to five million during each of Jokers years. It just wasn't considered cool to have UK football gear by the young folks for some reason.Let's say 30,000 more empty seats every game compared to with a new coach. $50 per ticket. Assume $10 concessions per person. Time 7 games. That's $12.6M in revenue. I don't think a ton of gear gets sold at games, but it would add a bit. Probably lose some parking pass sales if season tickets are severely depleted. You might be looking at $15M in revenue lost.
I do. When I was at UK we also dominated in football. Of course, the NCAA didn't like it, and because we were on probation, we didn't get to play a bowl game, and we ended up 6th anyway. Many forget that great Florida season in 1979, WHEN THEY DID NOT WIN A SINGLE GAME. You youngsters think this mess had gone on forever. It has not, and it doesn't have to go on forever. You cannot win unless an AD makes good hires AND fires. The biggest tool an AD has is the ability to terminate. You can't motivate if there is no threat of losing the job. Barnfart has given that away. He made himself as useless as tits on a bull. .
Yeah but we need to save our money.Barnhart can be bought out for less than Stoops...

Why would any assistant coach at the University of Kentucky have a buyout in their clause? That is insane. Our assistants and coordinators are unproven at UK. I want them to be paid top dollar but let them earn a reputation before giving buyouts in their contracts. Not when they are first hired.
I think this makes sense...UK has to win 2 of 4 winnable SEC games vs. UCS, Mizzou, Vandy and Miss St. (I'd almost argue Miss St looks un winnable after what I've seen from UK) and win the 2 remaining non conference scrubs.Stoops' 12M is the big deal. As pointed out above, assistants salaries are a different deal.
I think it depends
0-3 wins------- $12M would seem cheap.
4 wins ------ call gets tougher, could go either way.
5 wins ------ $12M would seem too much
6 or more wins ---- he's back. Odds of winning 6, at this point. 0.000000001% IMHO
Figure with 30,000 in stands would be more like 18 to 24 million a year depending upon a number of factors such as reduced K fund contributions , royalties etc. my best guess is around twenty million or about sixty million for the final three years of his contract.I'd estimate around $14 million per year if we put 30k less in the stands when you figure tickets, concessions, and parking. Didn't even figure apparel sales. End result = we are stuck with Stoops thru next year at least.
I'd be inclined to keep Morrow. This might actually be a way to reduce the number. Some of the assistants can be offered to stay on so we don't buy them out. If they opt out then we don't have to pay them. Can blame the Big Harbobo for Marrow's.

nah. off the top of my head I think of Kevin White - AD at Notre Dame who survived I) hiring George O'Leary for 5 days, ii) hiring Tyrone Willingham iii) hiring Charlie Weiss and iv) extending Charlie Weiss for 10 years. Notre Dame football has a little more tradition than UK, and he survived all that.....Any where but UK if an AD does something like that contract he's gone.
