seeing as speights left after his sophomore year let's compare the two (chuck and speights) sophomore years:

Chuck: 13.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.9 bpg
Mareese: 14.5 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.4 bpg

Chuck Sr year: 17/4 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.4 bpg

seeing as how his (speights) stats were better in rpg and bpg than chucks sr stats, it's most likely that in 2 years his ppg would have been better, too. who knows. since he left as a so the only thing you can really compare is their 2 so year campaigns and while his isn't lightyears ahead of chuck's, it is better.

Charles Rhodes or Maurice Speights?

Rhodes, no question.
Rhodes as a senior was better consistently than Speights as a sophmore. Speights took posessions off on both offense and defense way too often. he had absurd talent, but consistency wasnt always there.
and it blows my mind to actually say this, but Rhodes' consistency became a strong part of his appeal last season.

devils advocate...chuck took alot of possessions off his so year and even his jr year...hell he did his sr year until about the 3rd week of sec play. having said that, yeah i'd take chuck his sr year over marreese his so year. but, if speights had made it to his sr year i'm pretty confident he would have been better than chuck was last year. the reason i believe that is that he's contributing in the nba now and chuck isn't. that's the thing, you can't really compare the two based on 1's sr year and 1's so year. therefore to get a more accurate look at the 2 i would think you would have to compare each's so year or look at where they're at now.

the entire point of all of this is how much talent Rick has. Last year he had Rhodes who was better than Speights yet Speights was drafted. Its about who you would rather have last year.

that was kind of the whole point. certainly the 76ers think speights was more talented last year?

just b/c rick doesn't have guys that are deemed to have "talent" according to the NBA doesn't mean he doesn't have better players than many others.

Which coach has an advantage--the one with 5 Mareese Speights in 2007-2008 or the one with 5 Charles Rhodes in 2007-2008? The one with 5 Walter Sharpes in 2007-2008 or the one with 5 Jamont Gordons in 2007-2008? I'd say its the one with the Rhodes and Gordons but people act like Rick doesn't have any talent b/c those guys have no position in the NBA or aren't deemed NBA "talent"

wouldn't you rather have someone that plays in the nba vs. someone that doesn't? i mean everyone always says how they wish'd we had outlaw, bender, ellis but what if they were like walter sharpe? would you hae rather had monta or jamont?

ahh, id guess that they thought Speights had a higher ceiling for talent. like you said earlier about projecting Speights' numbers as a senior and them being better than Rhodes, id guess the 76ers felt Speights had more room to grow.
hell, that Fup DeAndre Jordan managed to get drafted off of 8points and 6 boards a game last season. i wouldnt call that more talented than Rhodes, id call that gambling on Jordan maturing and developing into a better player than Rhodes.
look at Rhodes' old classmate Sharpe for the same thing. Sharpe put up comparable numbers to Rhodes last season(for the few games he managed to stay eliglble), yet he was drafted high enough to actually get 1st round money/contract. that is how much Detroit for some reason wanted him. id guess they took a gamble on a guy that played a whopping 40ish college games in total over 4 years, who got shot and denied it, was arrested for drugs, and managed to not stay academically eligible all because they see a higher ceiling in his ability. Sharpe wasnt more talented than Rhodes last season, they were almost identical. its just that Sharpe apparently displays more potential.

and the NBA creams over potential.

when they are at State. Sure, I'd love people to come here that are projected to be in the NBA...but just b/c we don't get those doesn't mean we don't have a lot of talent. Until the rule changed, how many players went in the draft out of college anyway.

We've had a lot of talent on the college level. Z was as good or better than Rondo in college. One is a superstar in the NBA, one is Down Low: Life in the D League. But what they did after college is irrelevant to me.

Just b/c W. KY had Courtney Lee doesn't make me feel better about how bad we've underacheived over the last 2 years.
