With the official start coming later this week are you going to watch the Olympics? I may catch a few things but I do have to admit I was today years old when I realized that Break Dancing is now a part of the Olympics. 🤣

I didn’t enjoy the Olympics last time because no crowds made it feel like I was just watching practice. But under normal circumstances I will cheer on USA on any and every sport there is.

Events that come around every 2-4 years are awesome.

Olympics
Copa and Euro
World Cup
Ryder Cup
Presidents Cup

And they usually come at a time when the rest of the sports world is in a slumber. I’m all in for Canada and the US teams.

Don't know, but gambling should already be. My *** would enter. I have bet on Cricket games before (and do not know jack **** about it). I bet on Euro basketball, Korean, Turkey, Australian, hell name a pro league and I have bet on them.
Whenever I’ve tried to figure out cricket I get even more confused

Fun fact: the frenchies didn't install a/c in the Olympic Village in order to be green. There's some sort of water based system that cools it down to 82 Fahrenheit. Teams are apparently allowed to bring window units and portable ones if they wish.

Good to see politics injected into the Olympic thread less than twenty posts in.

Back to topic, I really only follow the track and field, volleyball to some extent as well. I don't watch NBA or college basketball much and swimming and diving bores me to tears, would rather watch paint dry or cut the grass.

Even though I'm a big golf fan, I can't get real excited about Olympic golf. We just had four majors which mean more to me and most fans than the Olympics by a long shot

I love that rugby 7s is now an olympic sport. Go Eagles!

I always like the track and field events, and swimming events.

And, of course, women's beach volleyball. Must see TV.

I wonder if it would have been more environmentally friendly had the French installed air-conditioning using a designed system, rather than let the competitors bring window units.

Seems the more wealthy countries will benefit from the French plan. I wonder if the French team is permitted to plug in. Let’s hope the weather is mild.

Looks like 85 is the high for the 10-day forecast. Some 70s in there. Nice.

USA rugby 7s team played to a 12-12 draw with France who had been favored. Then lost to Fiji this afternoon. They play Uruguay tomorrow. If they win that game they will likely advance to the knockout rounds.

Go Eagles!

As a casual surfer for near 40 years I'm really looking forward to that. The location is literally a top 5 location in world #1 to many. Teahupo (Chopes) is insane . If Chopes starts cranking surfi g will be a top 3 watched event imo.. There will be carnage - heaviest waves in world breaking on a 3 foot deep razor sharp reef (exposed at parts) but making 20 to 30 ft perfect barrels.

If waves cooperate could be a great event to watch.

Well, that kinda sucked. USA rugby 7s lost to Australia in the quarter finals 18-0.

Hopefully the women’s team can do better this weekend.

The father of the Irish poet, WB Yeats, won an Olympic medal (silver) for his painting The Liffey Swim. Jack Yeats was a famous painter and outlived his even-more-famous son by 18 years. And he was one of the coolest looking geezers ever,

The guy himself

[edit/correction]

Jack was the brother of WB Yeats. His father was also a painter and also named John Butler Yeats. Jr. was still cooler looking than his brother.

His medal winning painting
