The judges are considering a new rule for the future. No coming on the board after the game to say “I told you so” when you didn’t have the stones to go out on a limb and make a pick during the week that could be judged by all after the fact. There are plenty of other threads for that behavior. Calling a result after the fact is not genius…or even particularly good sportsmanship.
That said, and despite all good hopes and thoughts, I think we all saw the depths of what the Trojans are capable of last night. Perhaps we’ve just seen the downside of firing a head coach early in the season as a 60 year record falls. And unless something drastically turns around, Mr Slovis is now in severe danger of losing his starting position.
Still, I like to make lemonade out of lemons. Maybe Jonathan Smith needs to be added to our list of coaching prospects. I had commented at the beginning of the week that it was somewhat uncharacteristic of OSU team to come out of the gates so strong. He really does seem to be turning that program around.
Regardless of the outcome, we still have hotly contested season long contest going here on this board. Though the majority of us were pretty much stumped on this game, this is a long season and it is about consistency over the long haul.
We had a very rare occurrence this week considering the unexpected outcome. We had a clear winner instead of a mixed result.
The Official Game Prediction Winner of the Week Award this week goes to:
@Shrapper who boldly and correctly identified the winning team and did pretty well on the final score as well, picking USC 24 and OSU 31. Regardless of how disappointing the outcome was, that is what this game is all about, so good job there.
The Extremely Coveted Most Wrong Title was hotly contested this week…and not necessarily on purpose! However, the winner of this contest is a familiar name to us all:
@The Lizard King, with a pick of USC 70 OSU 67. I am impressed by your dedication to stick with this, and I am a little surprised we don’t have more people purposely challenging you for the title.
We will post the preliminary standings in
The Race for the Season Long Prediction Czar later in the day.
