The one thing no one is talking about today....

West Aurora.

When the playoffs started, everyone thought they were overhyped, overrated and the most mostly 9-0 team to lose in the first round.

Well, they did lose. But guess what, they gave the state champs in the largest class their best game of the postseason.

If not for a botched exchange in the 4th quarter, we could be talking about a different result today.

Absolutely!! West Aurora deserves props!! However - after that game the MS coaching staff finally decided to play multiple guys both ways. I don't think MS makes it to the finals without those personnel decisions. MS defense looked like a different unit starting in round 2.

Said that for most of the season no one really listened (no doubt I miss a lot too so not boasting or anything) and anyone who saw that first round game left knowing the Blackhawks were very tough in 2016

If you're going to play this game how about the Glenbard North Panthers? They go toe to toe with ESL (only team to do so in the playoffs) and lose in an epic fashion. 4th and 21 converted, fumble not recovered, winning INT taken away with a pass interference and a last second Hail Mary, all on the last drive for ESL to steal the W. The thing I don't get is you would think they didn't even play the game, maybe I'm missing it but all 3 Chicago papers didn't even have a story on this game? Ridiculous.

or
Neuqua was a pretender with the DVC being at an all time low. Can't put them in over HF.

"All time Low?" Don't you think that is a little harsh?

* I agree NV was probably not a top 10 team - but their only two losses were to GBN (got dominated by them) and GBW on a last second field goal so I don't think that is "all time Low"

* I agree that there was not one or two "dominant" teams in the DVC like in years past - closest team to "dominant" was GBN and yes they stumbled twice in conference play to a couple of very solid teams in one score games.

* I would say there were a lot of good teams in the DVC this year - but not a truly dominant or "great" team like in years past. Sounds like you disagree on this one point and that is where we part ways.

Not really, the conference was not good this year and it showed in the playoffs. It happens.

If it's any consolation, the CCL was terrible this year too, just to show you it's not selective.

Yup two last second field goal losses by NN and NV and them not making it out of the 1st round really hurt from a conference evaluation perspective

GBN comported themselves pretty well in the playoffs in my opinion and would have been in the finals if they were on the other side of the bracket (IMO) - See GoGBN's post.

WV probably exceeded expectations as a 5-4 team beating HC but then didn't look good at all in the second round game. WV was very up and down in 2016. One week they look great, the next they cough up the rock 4 times and look like DooDoo.

I can see where one could look at the playoffs and say DVC under performed this year - especially not having at least one team in the quarters. It has been a long time since the DVC hasn't made it to a quarterfinals....

What's sad is before that botched exchange the ball crossed the plane but they were ruled down. Video was all over twitter clearly showing knee was not down. It didn't feel too bad at the time because the Cross kid was unstoppable but alas the next play they fumble and lose.

Does anyone have the number on the last time a DVC didn't make the quarterfinals? I bet it's been 25+ years.

What the DVC needs is a healthy WWS program, they covered up some otherwise garbage years in the DVC in the past by winning state titles or making semi final appearances.

Hello mchsalumni

ok at lunch I did some research on the IHSA site and here is what I found (assuming the data on the site is accurate). It's been 8 years since the DVC has not had a team in the Quarterfinals. A long streak broken - but the all time low seems to be in 2008. I did not go back any further to see if there was a time with all 1st round exits. .

Deepest Run for DVC team by Year and Class:
2016 (this year): 8A: WV 2nd round, 7A GBN 2nd round
2015: 8A: NC Qtrs, WV Semi's, 7A: GBN 1st round
2014: 8A: NC Qtrs, 7A: WWS Qtrs
2013: 8A: NC State Champs, 7A: WN Qtrs
2012: 8A: GBN runner up NV Semis, WV Qtrs 7A: WN Qtrs
2011: 8A: NC Semis, GBN Semis 7A: WWS runner up
2010: 8A: NN Qtrs 7A: WWS State Champs
2009 8A: GBN Semis 7A: WWS State Champs
2008 8A: NN 2nd round 7A: WWS 1st round

2005 was the worst year WWS went to semi-finals and every other team lost n the first round.

How can that be worse than an 8A 2nd round exit and a 7A 1st round exit?. I mean come on man - WWS made the Semi's in 2005... it doesn't matter if the rest of the conference sh*t the bed that year... a team in the semi's is a good year for most conference's.

Agree. The boys feel they were the best offense we faced all year.

How did the boys feel LWE stacked up with the other teams they played? Just wondering since that game was decided by 3 points?

They felt they had a very tough team! Good line play and of course a hard hitting team. What set West Aurora apart was of course the Cross twins. I mean how Daquan is not up for POY I just don't get it. Seriously if we had him I don't think we lose a game this year.
