With Phil Knight from nike giving you money they should be able to get whoever they want.

Very interesting.

Oregon nipping things in the bud and not taking any chances. He had a 37-16 record and 2 out of 3 bowl wins.

Brian Kelly, Les Miles, Chip Kelly, Lane Kiffin, Chryst, Fleck, Frost, Brohm, Sneaky P, Gary Patterson, Troy Calhoun, Ken Niumatalolo...

Where does Helfrich go? He is a good coordinator with a productive modern day offense that talent wants to play in...

I haven't really followed Oregon lately, but you take away this down season and he is 33-8 the previous 3 years. That's an average of about 11-3 a year. He came in 1st twice in his division and played for the championship in one of those years. Is this a smart move firing him? Is this one bad season a sign of things to come or just a down year?

If they we're smart PJ Fleck would kill it there with the resources they have available..... I'd bet the name isn't sexy enough for Nikes flashy poster child though.

Prolly circle back to Chip if he wants the gig, Miles with an O coord they make him hire, maybe pry Mcelwain from Florida (don't know if he is big enough name), be interesting to see what they do.....

Hope they leave my guy James Franklin alone at PSU... But he is a PA guy, hopefully wouldn't go.

Oregon could even do better than Chip did there with the Nike relationship and easy conference. They could challenge Bama yearly with a good coach like Fleck

The program was on an absolute nosedive. No bowl, getting absolutely destroyed by their biggest rival, whom they hadn't lost to in 12 years, 70-21, and losing to Oregon State, whom they hadn't lost to in 8 years.

Likewise, he isn't getting any recruits, and the year he made the NCG was with Kelly players

Here is the list from CBS:

Mike MacIntyre, Colorado
Larry Fedora, North Carolina
P.J. Fleck, Western Michigan
Dan Mullen, Mississippi State
Bryan Harsin, Boise State
Jim McElwain, Florida
Willie Taggart, South Florida

http://www.cbssports.com/college-fo...andidates-to-replace-mark-helfrich-at-oregon/

Fedora... that's an interesting name. He's been solid at UNC.

If I'm an Oregon fan reading that list, I'm probably rooting for McElwain or Harsin with their PNW knowledge.

Kelly has been a total bust in the pros. He'd be smart, if he was given the opportunity, to go back to Oregon. But, the expectations would be thru the roof and would he be able to catch lightening in a bottle for a second time?

If you are an Oregon fan, is that the exciting hire?

I wouldn't excite me but I don't really know the mindset of an Oregon fan. They're a strange breed up there. I would take Miles with a good offensive coordinator. Not sure how a west coast fan feels. I bet they want the high powered offense back ala UK fans with the love of the air raid a ways back.

Kelly rides in to save the day. Oregon would be stupid not to hire him back.
Kelly absolutely hates recruiting (helfrich carried that load for him). I don't think he would want to come back. Fleck seems the fav at the moment.

Hello Greg Schiano!

I like Schiano but his offense wouldn't be exciting enough for the fan base. They are accustomed to high scoring, high pace offense. I think it's too early for Kelly to abandon ship in the NFL, even though I think he should. I just don't think his ego will allow him to return to Oregon. I don't see it being a big name despite the Phil Knight money.

We had an Oregon guy that used to post on here from time to time back in the past. Can't remember his name, but he seemed like a great guy and thought very highly of Rich Brooks and always had good info to share. He even had "Duck" in his user name. He seemed like he was plugged into the Oregon program, and it would be interesting to get his perspective.

I'm just glad we're not going through a coaching search right now.

They will approach Chip Kelly first. He's the guy who led them during the most successful run in the schools history. His NFL career has been lackluster and he doesn't seem to be enjoying his time in San Fran. The man ran a top-5 program in Eugene when he was there. They'd be crazy not to approach Kelly first.

You might be thinking of bthaunert (think that is how he spelled his user name). He was at UO and worked in connection with the athletic program. Believe he has moved on to another school somewhere like in Maryland. He worked for UO athletics for a number of years but is a major Cats fan. Had some very good information about the Ducks and college athletics, in general. Surprised I haven't seen him in this thread yet. I, myself, had Mark Helfrich as a student in my classes in Coos Bay, Oregon and coached him in basketball in junior high but that's all the connection I have with Oregon sports and know nothing about UO football, lol.

I am a pretty big Oregon fan. I think it's going to be Scott Frost. He and Phil Knight are very chummy and if there is anything I know from my time at the UofO, it's Phil gets what Phil wants. They have a HUGE decision on their hands. Do they go away from the prototypical Oregon football that they have known since Belotti took over and are known for or do they look at Frost and try and move forward with it. They had one bad year (this year). The off the field stuff played a pretty big role in this also as their was some tension with all the off the field stuff with the team. If I am putting any money on it, I am going with Scott Frost.

will defer to you - but I was just about to say (as far as Phil gets what he wants) that Fleck is just the kind of young guy that Knight could get fired up about and fall in love with.........

They just talked about it on ESPN.

Looks like the leaders in the club house are Fleck, Frost, Harsin, Holgerson. A solid list of young up and coming names.

Not surprising, Ducks definitely sticking with offense...

I think Fleck is definitely a possibility. It will be someone young and exciting imo.

I like Oregon and they have amazing facilities. Hope they get a good coach, they were way ahead of the curb which will be hard to duplicate but they were/are a fun team hope they get it right.
