I am a UK fan first but I am also a big Oregon Football fan. A little history, back in high school we would always play football tournaments on the PS2 and we could never pick the same team someone else had. I never got to pick UK. Joey Harrington was on the cover of NCAA 2002 I believe and I thought, Oregon is on the cover so they must be good. Picked them, immediately beat all of my friends and won the tournament. Funny enough I loved their high powered offense on the game and after a year or so I started to follow them in real life when Mike Bellotti was head coach at the time. I am no bandwagon fan.

If the short list was up to me my top 3 would be..

Chip Kelly - His 4 year tenure at Oregon is super impressive - 4 BCS bowl games + 1 Championship game is great. I would also hire Scott Frost back as OC and pay him big bucks. I don't think he's doing that great at UCF, 6-6 I think? Still bowl eligible. Of course Chip Kelley's brand of the Spread offense was super fun to watch. It seems from the press conference last night most fans want Kelly back.

PJ Fleck - A young coach doing extremely well at Western Michigan, I haven't watched his brand of football so I don't know if his offensive is fast paced/spread that Oregon fans are use too. He seems like an up and coming coach ready to break out and do big things.

Scott Frost - He was a good OC for Chip's first two years I believe, and did an excellent job. I think he would still use the Spread offense that Oregon fans are looking for but he's my third option since he already knows the intricacies of the Oregon Program.

Coaches Oregon should NOT hire = Les Miles, Brian Kelly or Lane Kiffin. If they can't get it done at LSU, ND and USC why would Oregon fans want them at Oregon? Plus I don't think each of their brand of football would be welcomed as much either.

Anyways, I have always wanted an Oregon team ran by Chip Kelly and a Louisville team ran by Petrino to play in a bowl, it would be a high score game and a fun game to watch.

Let's hope Oregon can hire someone that can upstart Oregon's momentum again when Chip Kelly was around!

You might be thinking of bthaunert (think that is how he spelled his user name). He was at UO and worked in connection with the athletic program. Believe he has moved on to another school somewhere like in Maryland. He worked for UO athletics for a number of years but is a major Cats fan. Had some very good information about the Ducks and college athletics, in general. Surprised I haven't seen him in this thread yet. I, myself, had Mark Helfrich as a student in my classes in Coos Bay, Oregon and coached him in basketball in junior high but that's all the connection I have with Oregon sports and know nothing about UO football, lol.
Oregon Pat and I think he passed away...I hope I am wrong on that, but pretty sure the name is correct

Funny story about Chip Kelly. I was working at the University of Pennsylvania when I accepted the job at the UofO and a couple weeks before leaving, I played golf with a buddy of mine, who brought along another guy. The guy he brought along happened to be an assistant coach at DIII Rowan University in NJ. This was summer of 2007. The guy says to me, "Hey, my buddy just got the OC job at Oregonh. His name is Chip Kelly and he was the OC at New Hampshire". I was thinking to myself...this guy has no idea what he is talking about. No way that Oregon gets the OC from the University of New Hampshire to run their offense. He told me he would do amazing things there...he was right.

Agree about Frost.

I find it comical when people bring up names like Brian Kelly or Kiffen. Kiffen has failed multiple times and Kelly is about to be run out of ND. Miles will never reach the same success he had at LSU again.

Rich Rodriguez should be their first call.

Fits their personnel and playing style way too well not to be at least considered.

Phillip Montgomery would be a slam dunk as well.
