But if he's not, then you're a fool. The decision needs to be analyzed from a baseball and matchups perspective. Making the decision on the basis of "We can't lose our first game and we have to do everything in our power to avoid that" is not a sensible position.

We are playing a solid all around team withstrong starter. We need to bring our best game and win the game in front of us rather than projecting too far. What if we save stratton, lose and end up having to use him against UAB. Can't think too far ahead.

That may be a luxury for a high national seed playing a 100+ RPI team, but not vs. a solid 3 seed who is hot.

demonstrate over the last 20 games that we have one of the best pitching staffs in the SEC and maybe the entire country? Did our team just show their ability by winning 5 of 6 games in the SEC tourney?

What is with the analyzing? Do we not have a head coach and pitching coach that will not back down to any team?

And ya'll are worried about who we will pitch? Did you not watch the game yesterday?... or this entire week?

I am confident that our team will be ready to play our first game regardless of who pitches.

Go dawgs!

There is no advantage to just getting to Saturday. The only advantage is going 2-0. You put yourself iin the best position to go 2-0.

If you lose, you give yoursefl the best chance which would be throwing Woodruff against UAB. If you lose and never throw Stratton, so be it. You play to win the regional. Even if you did throw Stratton in that game against UAB, you'd be in the same spot you would be in regardless in your 3rd game----having alrady thrown Stratton.

Again, there is no advantage gained by simply winning Friday.

What mathcup gives us the best chance of beating both Samford and FSU.

will talk all week about how stupid that is, because you all know more than the coaching staff of one of the best three pitching staffs in the country. I will leave this debate at that.

He's a reliever not a starter. Supposed to be drafted this year as well, although his stats aren't great.

Apparently FSU has no ace, so the question is, can Graveman/Woodruff/Lindgren/whoever beat FSU? THAT is the only question. If we feel that Stratton is the only one who can, then by all means save him. But if Graveman has the ability to do it, and we don't use Stratton to get by this ace of Samford's, it's a mistake. It's a big decision and I'm glad I don't have to make it. <div>
</div><div>Also, if you throw Stratton early, he could conceivably come back Pomeranz style if we do get beat at some point, which I think is likely.</div><div>
</div><div>However, I would not object to not throwing Stratton vs. Samford. </div>

doesn't matter unless you win the 2nd. Unless we win the 1st two, we are in the same position no matter how we go 1-1. One big advantage of pitching Strat Friday is that he could probably throw an inning on Sunday or Monday, if need be.
