They beat Southern Methodist (6), Clemson (6) and Tennessee (8). Then ran up against Auburn (11) and their season fell apart.

Very odd. The thing that stands out to me is their offense sucked. Only scored more than 16 points once all season, and that was only 21. I know it was a different era, but that's bad offense in any era.
