The problem is, Stans doesn't see a problem...

He keeps doing the same thing over and over expecting to receive a different result...

With three timeouts in hand, Stansbury opted to catch
Georgia off guard by pushing the ball up the court after Georgia's
Gerald Robinson missed a free throw.
<span style="font-weight: bold;">MSU
senior guard Dee Bost expected Stansbury to call a timeout</span>, but kept
playing and missed an off-balanced 3-pointer well short of the basket at
the buzzer.<span class="aa"></span><span class="pp"></span>"<span style="font-weight: bold;">Naturally,
if I thought we weren't going to get a better shot than that, then
maybe you do something different," Stansbury said. "No, I would do that
again."</span>

Does he think he gets to carry over the unused timeouts to the next game, or is it the fact that he knows he can't draw up an offensive play to win a game?
He really is crazy or just stupid....You make he call...

But, once you get the ball over halfcourt and their defense is back, call the time out. Bost clearly just stood there expecting the time out then had to restart when he saw it wasn't coming. Terrible decision by Stans.

What if Coach Stansbury realizes his "set" plays work only fair at best. What if knowing this he just said, screw it, let Bost make a play or create something (because he will probably just do that anyway)instead of taking the timeout and letting the defense set up?

Maybe that is what he did. Doesn't mean I approve of not having a play drawn up and having the players execute it, and not using timeouts, but maybe Coach Stans understands his shortcomings....in that instance.

One of the main reasons we didn't get any better shot off than we did was because all the players just stood there for 3 seconds waiting for the time out call that never came. By the time they realized that Stans wasn't going to call one, it was too late to run much of anything on offense.</p>

you would think that he would have told the team, or at least Dee, what he wanted to do. From Dee's comment, it doesn't seem like that was the case. That isn't the only situation where we were unprepared or didn't know what to do. We also fouled outside the 3 point line with 25+ seconds to go, which took the shot clock out of the game and took away a guaranteed possession. <div>
</div><div>Whatever the reason, this team struggles with situational basketball. </div>

The only thing that Stansbury is consistent with is wasting last chance possessions at the end of halves and games.

In my recent memory Stansbury has never called a TO in that situation. Bost has no excuse for thinking he would have. I think Bost is just trying to save face. This the way Zimmerman beat Ole Miss that year by driving before the defense got set. If Stansbury had called TO and missed shot every basketball expert on this board would have critized for letting the defense get set.

The word you are looking for is already there, with that definition.

Insanity - Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results

and questionable ability to execute a set play out of a time-out, I'll take that approach every time. Even with a team that can execute plays, I still like letting your senior guard try to make a play without giving the other side a chance to set up their D.

That said, there shouldn't be any confusion on what is going to happen. Either Bost or Stansbury is at fault for Bost not knowing the approach.

But all-in-all, I don't want Stansbury to call a time-out in that situation. I feel like with our current team, it will typically benefit the other team more than it benefits State.

The problem is the lack of communication and understanding between coach and players. IF he had wanted to push the ball at the end of the game, and that was understood from our players, it wouldn't be a problem, and we would have gotten a GOOD look with a chance to tie or win. There was PLENTY of time before the GA one and one to tell Bost this and let him pass on the word to others.

Stans failure to be on the same page with his players here was the MAJOR mistake.... The decision to push the ball and not call time out was a 50/50 proposition. In and of itself, it is not a mistake...

Look, I dont want to pile on Moutltrie, but it looked to me he froze and got caught in moment. I remember the year MSU beat Tenn in SEC tournamnet and on final play I saw rick tell phil turner to foul because they were fouls to give. Turner lets guy go and luckily they missed the three. Im pretty sure they told Chris Webber in huddle that they didnt have any timeouts left, things happen.

If he calls a timeout to set up a play and we don't make the shot everybody would be saying how stupid it was to call a timeout to let Georgia's defense get set when Stans can't draw up offensive plays anyway. Everyone here sucks off Bobby Knight when he announces a game and Knight has said he would never call a timeout in those situations because he thought there was a better chance of scoring in a scramble type situation than calling a timeout to let the defense get set. It was Bost's fault for just standing there thinking Stansbury was going to call a timeout. Don't try to coach Dee. Just play the game and if a timeout is called, so be it. You don't just stand around waiting for a timeout to be called. That was stupid on his part.
