The real story on the Patterson visit

There was no such questioning of Patterson's "off the field" activities. No questions directed towards his girlfriend nor her drug habits. The coaches were not asked to leave at all. There was an awkard moment during the visit when Coach Mullen told the family that he didn't think Pat could speak very well. Which needless to say didn't go over so well with the Patterson camp. Coach Mullen explained that if Pat came to Mississippi State that he would be getting a lot of face time in front of the TV cameras and that MSU would do everything in their power to help him to be more comfortable talking to the cameras. Pat's family and support group liked what Mullen had to say and also they were really impressed with Coach Hudspeth. My source a member of the Noxubee County coaching staff.

He was on the couch with Patterson and family. Or he just got this info from Yancy or McReady.

This is what I know so far: (per Yancy)

1. Thames and Clayton Moore are a package deal and will be at Ole Miss.
2. Bumphis has been seen every weekend in Oxford.
3. MSU's offer was only a 1 year offer for Fletcher Cox. Ole Miss' was a 4 year scholarship offer.
4. Clayton Moore has more offers than Russell or Garrett, therefore, he is better.
5. Mullen ******* on Pat Patterson's floor in Macon, MS.
6. Pernell McPhee is interested in Ole Miss per a fake interview.
7. Russell will commit to Bama and AJ McCarron will commit to UM because he likes the social atmosphere.

so a high school senior doesnt speak very well in the presence of a coach?
shocker.

i cant even begin to wrap my mind around the number of high school seniors who dont speak well in the presence of a respected authority figure that they dont know well.

how often are MSU players in front of the TV cameras anyways?

there is a reason why many coaches in major college sports dont allow freshmen to talk to the media...as a whole, they arent ready. so for Mullen to actually specifically point out his inability to speak well is...nuts.

i just dont buy that as having happened. or if it did, he is one dumb SOB.

there are several videos on youtube of the players from the All Star game in Mobile. Youtube Pat Patterson to see for yourself and compare his poise in front of the camera versus Tyler Russell and Chad Bumphis

The stars of each game are in front of the media after the coach gives his press conference. The media requests certain players after the game and the staff sends some of them out. If Patterson were to be a star player, as I am sure Mullen would try to convey to him in the visit, then he could expect to address the media after certain games if not all of them. I could definitely see the subject come up in conversation. Mullen would try to explain that we would help him become comfortable in speaking to the press as we teach him what he can or can not say. I don't see anything wrong with that unless it came across wrong to Pat.

I always remember Discenzo Miller being quite a guy and player, but had a hard time speaking well. Just my own observation, not that there is anything wrong with it.

yep, he doesnt speak as clearly or as confidently.
...a typical 17 year old in front of a camera.

i agree, i can see the difference on camera, but damn thats a hell of a thing to actually bring up in recruiting. i wonder if he brings up the weaknesses of all the recruits he visits?

that Mullen has been recruiting for years. This isnt his 1st rodeo. Hell, the assistants do more of the recruiting than the HC does. After 5 years of Crooms, i'm not worried about him recruiting

I wasn't there, so I'm just guessing. Maybe you can ask Vanilla, but I would bet he was just telling him when he left State he would feel comfortable in front of the camera, kind of a selling point.

I don't think he said, "Kid, you don't speak very well."

if he does it could be why his QB's don't take to him at first. Then again you can tell a lot about someone when you tell them their weaknesses to their face. Similar to an evaluation on the job sitting face to face with your boss.

on first impressions. You will seldom get an evaluation on the job unless you had a good enough first impression to secure the job in the first place.

...........that there's a reason we're hearing all this negative crap all of the sudden? Croom isn't our coach anymore. We hired someone who's young, aggressive, and innovative, and it threatens our rivals. We're hated again, and likely on some level even feared again, mainly because we had the balls to give Croom the boot and take a proactive approach towards becoming a winning football program. In the coming days, weeks, and months Greg Byrne will be hated, cowbells will be evil, Mullen will be a cheater, and our players will be African-Zulu dancing thugs(that's not me talking). Oh, and according to certain people with an agenda(Yancy) our coach will be a terrible recruiter who gets thrown out of in-home visits, makes fun of a recruit's speech pattern in front of his parents, and doesn't have sense enough to say the right things to hold on to undoubtedly the most important recruit of his first incoming class.

I wasn't born yesterday. I don't know about some other people.

we act like he's tommy boy making his first sales call.

And I don't see how the visit could have gone well, Optimus Prime said he "knows" the visit went badly.

Mullen said, "You know, Pat, you don't smell so good."
