I think we will hear alot of names from those people. The only people in the world that don't realize Memphis is Memphis is of course Memphis.

in your opinion, a team that can't win consistently in Conference USA playing Marshall, East Carolina, and Tulsa every year would suddenly become a force to RECKON with if they replaced those teams with Florida, Alabama, and LSU. That's what you are saying?

because "force to be reckoned with" is so overly broad.

However, if I were to guess what would be in this guy's thinking, I would assume he means that the talent pool in Memphis is sufficient to field a pretty decent team, if you had a team in the SEC that could attract the talent to play there. I doubt "force to be reckoned with" is the proper phraseology.

Another train wreck to watch here in town. I hope they hire him. Hey, RC Johnson - there's a reason nobody but North Alabama has come within 20 miles of this guy in over a decade.

RC Johnson makes LT look like Jeremy Foley.

Memphis is a good school, big town, big stadium and money. Their only problem is their conference. It suxs! If they were SEC they would get the players. They would own N. Mississippi, East Arkansas, West Tenn, South Missouri and West Ky.

That's what I am saying. You cannot really believe that.

And since when has Memphis been a "good school?" Good compared to what? It's no better than State or Ole Miss, and probably worse than both. Hell, US News ranks it as a Tier 4 school. You know who else is a Tier 4? Jackson State.

Big stadium? Ok, I'll give you that. However, you forgot to mention it's off campus, falling apart and in a pretty undesirable part of town.

could be a top 25 program if they were in the SEC. It's a lot easier to recruit knowing you will be going aGAINST some of the best in the country.

Like much of the city's population with respect to everyday life, Memphis fans have this "entitlement" attitude towards football. They expect that a BCS conference is going to swoop in at any given moment and invite them into a conference. All will be well at that point according to your typical Memphis fan. Never mind that the AD nor the fans do a damn thing to improve the football situation there. They want a program but are too damn lazy to put the effort in that's required to have one.

Tommy West went easy on the fans in his press conference this morning. He was classy enough not to throw them under the bus along with RC. But, their fans need to realize they program is only going to be as good as they allow them to be. Granted, they need better leadership in the AD to get things going, but Memphis fans are beyond pathetic at football support. How many fans did they have at the ECU game, 2 or 3k? Ridiculous. Who wants to play for a program with that sort of support and why would a conference be stupid enough to gamble on that?

The vast majority of Memphis fans I know haven't attended one football game this year. Not one. But, somehow or another they have this idea that ground on an on-campus stadium is about to be broken and the Big East is going to hand over the conference invite. Ask them how and why? The answer: Fred Smith and the fact they hired some consultant that supposedly told them the Big East wants them. ********. Fred Smith isn't dumping $200M+ of his own money into an on-campus football stadium when only 5k people are going to show up. And the Big East (or SEC, Big 10, etc. etc.) isn't going to subsidize a ****** program that nobody gives a crap about.

If Memphis fans want to be taken seriously, they need to find an AD worth a ****, stop being lazy, and find a way to better the program. Then, they can talk about conferences.

I didn't know who this Herenton cat was. From Wikipedia:
Herenton is a graduate of Le Moyne-Owen College in South Memphis, and the University of Memphis. He received his doctorate in education at Southern Illinois University, and is also a recipient of two honorary doctorates from Rhodes College and Christian Brothers University. He has four children, the youngest of whom was born in late 2004 to a local waitress
He sounds like he would fit in well in the Jackson City Council

And, oh yea, they must hand PhD's in education out like candy.
