I've never seen anything like that. The ref made the correct call on the first technical. Not sure about the second.

The referees had probably told the coach several times that if he didn't calm down, he would get a tech. He never let up, found himself halfway out on the court screaming, and got a tech. Although I don't know what he was saying, there was reason for them to t him up, then toss him.

Commentators don't always know what's going on. This is one of those cases.

If you'll notice, after the first technical FTs and Charlotte inbounds the ball, the player heaves up a shot from mid-court as he's being fouled. Therefore, it's a 3-shot foul. If you count the FTs at the very end, this is obvious. He shot 3 for the foul, then two sets of technical FTs (you can hear the arena PA guy announce these), for a total of 7. The Richmond coach was not happy that they called it a foul in the act of shooting. He thought it should have only been 2 FTs, so he freaked out. And after obviously being told to settle down, this was the last straw.

The commentators never knew what was happening. One of them even said he was losing count of FTs.

Right, that's what I was referring to. He kept harping and harping on the call, as well as showing issue, and referees will not tolerate constant harping over a call. I don't know many that will tolerate it for very long, and I thought they gave him plenty of opportunities to settle down without giving him a tech, and he never did.

Jeffery got this one right. After the coach was ejected, Charlotte was awarded 7 free throws (3 for the foul, 2 for the first technical, and 2 for the second technical). Obviously, this means that the refs called the "intentional" foul as though it was in the act of shooting. The Richmond coach, although he had somewhat calmed down over the technical foul that was called during the rebound (his real issue there was with the way the FT's were awarded), went ballistic that they called it a shooting foul. He got his first T when he charged the court arguing the shooting foul and picked up his second quickly thereafter.

No, I know that. I was simply responding to Faust's comment that "the first tech was correct, and he was unsure about the second."

Anybody else remember a similar game vs UGA at the hump in about 82......

I've never seen anything like that. The ref made the correct call on the first technical. Not sure about the second.

Very tight game coming down to the wire and something happened to set Hugh Durham off. He stomped after those officials all over the court and I believe he got at least 3-4 techs before they finally got him off the court. He was tossed after the second one I think. Our foul shooter, which was in all likelihood Jeff Malone (fuzzy memory), stood there and shot FT after FT and we won going away.

I do remember it being quite entertaining for us students.

I've never seen anything like the Charlotte coach's hair. What's up with that?
