always ends up wherever upcoming prospects seem to be.

He was at Kosy, then Nox Co., and lately has been around MC and Raleigh.

Gets by on "loopholes". If the NCCA closes his loopholes like they did the Masoli one, Chuck Rounsaville and Yancy will really scream. They would rather lose Masoli than that guy.

A post by "Political Hack" on BDJ:

...I took the liberty of doing it myself. VZ actually did call the guy.
I'll give him kudos where kudos are due... despite my better
judgement.

I spoke to the guy who gave the recruits the ride for about an hour
tonight. We talked about a lot of interesting things and actually only
talked about the whole ride incident for about 20 minutes.

According to him, and I believe him, Rosebowl blew the entire thing out
of proportion (and yes, I am heartbroken that the black helicopters went
away). There were several recruits with them, not just Tobias and
Price. The other recruits' parents had paid for them to go to the Troy
camp and for their overnight stay. The guy who provided the ride felt
obligated to allow them to finish working out before he left for State.
He openly admitted that they had planned to end up in Oxford after Joe
worked out at the Big Dawg camp, but on the way the pressure started
from the other recruits to just skip the State camp and drive straight
to Oxford. None of the other recruits wanted to go to State (they're
all "Ole Miss guys" apparently). Joe was the only one really wanting to
work out and try to earn an offer. Tobias was not going to work out.
After he found out that Brassell had decided to go on a little last
minute family vacation (another interesting story), so Tobias pretty
much made up his mind that he just wanted to go straight to oxford.
Tobias was even talking to Nix during the trip to Starkville about
playing video games against each other later that night. Price wanted
to go to State, but Tobias and the other recruits pointed out to him
that the coaches at State had already seen him run and going up to the
camp wasn't going to give him any extra chance to earn an offer. Price
agreed, although according to Mr.Ride, he wasn't overly excited about
not going. He just gave in to the several other kids in the car. Mr.
Ride actually called one of our former players during all of this and
told him that the kids didn't want to go anymore but he didn't want it
to impact his ability to help other kids get an "in" with State in the
future. The former player called Hud to tell him. Naturally Hud was
skeptical, and still may be, but he did call all the other players in
the car at a later date to double check the story.

All in all, Tobias and the other kids just wanted to go to Oxford and
weren't planning on working out at State anyways. After all this, I
said I assume that State's pretty much out of Tobias's recruitment then,
right? Mr. Ride said "no, it's 50/50". I was a little shocked, so I
asked him how that was. He said that Mullen and Co are pulling out
every angle they can. He said they're recruiting him harder than anyone
else and that Tobias feels like a priority to them. He loves the Percy
Harvin pitch and he knows Mullen will feature him in the offense from
day one. He said he was all but wrapped up in maroon and white until OM
pulled out the scholly for his brother and got his mother on campus.
That's the only reason they are back in the game, but he does think it's
dead even right now and Tobias could go either way.

Also, he said that both Tobias and Brassell want to go to the same
school, but that doesn't necessarily mean OM. He said that Bama is
pretty much out of it, and it's a two way race for both of them. Also
said Snoop is very very hard to get a read on. On the way to the Big
Dawg camp, Snoop went from saying he was going to Oxford, to Starkville,
to going on a mini-vacation all within a day. Tobias knows he can flip
flop like this, so in the end he'll make his own choice. He just hopes
it ends up being in the same place.

As far as where Tobias will be this weekend, he signed the MC paperwork
to go to Oxford, but he wants to go to Starkville. he may go to both,
but it's not entirely worked out yet.

Also, the guy openly admitted that he's an OM fan. He actually went to
Delta State, took classes at State, and grew up a Florida State fan. he
said he likes going to OM more and goes there some for games, but
brought one of our more covetted recruits to 3 of our games last season.
He also advised Vincent Sanders that he should go to State and told
Robert Johnson he'd be better off at OM. Didn't exactly work out that
way, but he said when the recruits ask him, he tells them what he
thinks. He actually left a game at OM last year to go pick up Sanders
and bring him to a State game because his other ride fell through.

if I imagine what happened is correct, PoliticalHack needs to be committed. I will never take my level of State fandom to the level of where I need to call an Ole Miss fan I don't even know to get clarification of a recruiting rumor about our rival.

Read the Courting of Marcus Dupree. They had a guy even back then doing the same thing. They always have. The kids back then used to call that guy Mr.Handshake. They all made sure to shake his hand.

That's where a lot of Yancy's info comes from. Yancy also feeds info from the staff at OM to the guy to pass on to recruits.

My main problem is that State needs a guy like that.

Political Hack says his real job is an investigator. So maybe this is a natural step for him.

Regardless, I'm glad he did it. This story needed to come out.

I hope "The Driver" becomes disempowered through this. Probably wishful thinking though.

Well, if the driver who is a big UMiss fan says he did nothing wrong, it must be true. I am sure whatever he told this douche political hack is 100% true. Come on, people.

i usually stay away from recruiting threads because the creep me out and this one does it as usual. for example:

</p>
Tobias was even talking to Nix during the trip to Starkville about playing video games against each other later that night.

now i know that some of you are still gamers but this is just creepy to me. a damn near 40 year old man hanging out with 17 to 18 year olds playing video games so that they will come play football with him as one of the coaches the next year is simply strange to me. i guess it wouldn't be if i had played any of that type of stuff in the last decade.

and this is not even scratching the surface of the creepiness that ensues by the poster calling up an OM booster/fan that he doesn't seem to know wellto get clarification on rumors about high school kids. i love college football. i love msu college football. but for 17s sake, that **** is absolutely nuts.

I think it's hilarious but to take it to that level is scary.

And what did you expect the guy he "interviewed" to say - "Yea, I am committing NCAA violations left and right. Come and get me".

it is the dirtiest, sleaziest, most demeaning and degrading job you can imagine.

It's the number one reason so many guys quit coaching at that level.

Heart attacks couldn't drive out Bo at Mich, but recruiting did.

the most ridiculous thing is that Hack believes what this guy told him. If I did something shady for MSU and some random calls me, I'm sure as hell not going to say "yea, I just don't like Ole Miss so I drove these kids to Starkville because Gene told me to"

Says he absolutely loves coaching and instructing, helping and watching players get better.

But also says he hated recruiting more than he loved coaching.

How can a person have nothing better to do than to hunt down high school football recruits and offer to drive them all over the Southeast?

I find it interesting that all you can take from the post is that this State fan needs to be "committed". That post should leave you wondering.

Who is this new "handshake" guy? Why is he so involved with the recruiting? Does he have a real job? How and why is he paying for gas and using his vehicle to drive teen age boys all over the south? Is it really his vehicle? Who paid for it? etc., etc., etc.

What is scary, is that we have fans so naive that they will contribute money to the BC, buy tickets, and spending coutless hours following the team but never concern themselves with what is going on behind the scenes.

can still be seen around MC football. i had heard he was an "investigator" by living, but i think most know who pays his bills. when a kid needs a ride, they know to call this guy...and he will always take them. My question is where are the MC coaches and what do they do, and how does Hall keep letting this guy jeopardize the recruitment of his players whether it be UM, MSU, etc. etc. Surely Big Blue would/has voiced their concern if it is as serious as some people say it is.

i think it is "deliberate". i don't want to know and don't really care what is going on behind the scenes. i contribute, buy tickets (when i have the pleasure of being in the state), and spend countless hours following the team but I purposefully leave the recruiting side of it to the coaches. i'm more concerned with things that i know more about (i.e., the game itself).

question: If I did concern myself with what was going on behind the scenes, how would it change things? I concerned myself constantly with the awful offense we were running under Crooms and from what I can remember, no one was calling me up for my opinion on the matter.

I am not saying every fan should be "investigating" the recruiting efforts of rivals. However, if you are a local person or in a position, to have/gain knowledge of something you think or know is not right. Then I don't see a problem with asking questions. It certainly does not cause one to be insane. Because just like with every law enforcement agency in this country, the NCAA's best source of information is people close to the situation. People in the towns and communities where these recruits live.

and each to his own i guess. it's still creeps me out but hell, the entire recruiting process is one i don't want to be associated with so that isn't really a surprise. it's almost like friending a recruit or player on facebook to me.

Same here on recruiting. People that should be associated with a recruit.......parents and coaches. That is it.

As a fan, all I want to do is look at the paper in February and see who we signed.

as much **** as they pull to sign players or get them eligible and they still can't do very much.
