It was referred to as Palmer field in 1976Never heard of Palmer Field. Palmer Stadium, yes.
My Dad was at one of those Giant games. Had to be taken from the field in an Stadium ambulance because of a Appendicitis emergency. The Giants and Eagles played a preseason game at Palmer for 10 years in a row in the 60's-70's.
I believe you mean Rosey Palmer... lots of palmers at Princeton. Its full of palmers. The stadium was literally named "Palmer," upon opening, after some dude Palmer's dad.
Well played!I believe you mean Rosey Palmer... lots of palmers at Princeton. Its full of palmers.
Palmer Stadium was given by Edgar Palmer, Princeton Class if 1903 as a memorial to his father, Stephen S. Palmer, a trustee of the University from 1908 to 1913 and the donor of Palmer Hall. Designed by Henry J. Hardenbergh, the stadium was completed in 1914, the same year as the Yale Bowl. The stadium was literally named "Palmer," upon opening, after some dude Palmer's dad.
I see you've been listening to Bleem Phuppert's podcast again.So.. what you're saying is that the grandson of Rutgers' own Reverend Jacob Rutsen Hardenbergh.. is responsible for the murder of John Lennon (because the building he designed was so beautiful).
I remember going as a kid a few yearsThe Giants and Eagles played a preseason game at Palmer for 10 years in a row in the 60's-70's.
Growing up in Elizabeth I remember those Westfield teams that Kehler coached.Grew up a few blocks away from the Kehler. Gary Kehler is still a legend in my hometown.
Great Information.Palmer Stadium was given by Edgar Palmer, Princeton Class if 1903 as a memorial to his father, Stephen S. The November 21, 1914 Daily Home News reported Princeton opened Palmer Stadium with a capacity of 41,536 (later 45,750). Rutgers and Princeton would have inaugurated the new stadium but problems with the grass field diverted the game over to University Field. Instead, the Princeton-Dartmouth game of October 24, 1914 was the first at Palmer Stadium and the last on November 23, 1996. The architect was Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, great, great grandson of Jacob Rutsen Hardenburgh, the first president of Queen’s College. Henry also designed Kirkpatrick Chapel, Geology Hall and an addition to Alexander Johnston Hall at Rutgers in addition to New York’s Waldorf and Astoria Hotels, the Dakota Apartments and many others.
So do I unfortunately. But my Linden Tigers put a scare into them back in 74 when they were ranked #1 in the state I believe. Final was 20-17. Most packed high school football game I ever attended.Growing up in Elizabeth I remember those Westfield teams that Kehler coached.
I knew a few guys from Linden during that time period. So do I unfortunately. But my Linden Tigers put a scare into them back in 74 when they were ranked #1 in the state I believe. Final was 20-17. Most packed high school football game I ever attended.
My alma mater Nutley played an epic game against Westfield 50 years ago. Both were undefeated at 5-0 with Westfield ranked first and Nutley second. Westfield came into Nutley‘s Park Oval field with a 36 game winning streak and a 47 game unbeaten streak. Glen Koehler led the state with 108 points. Late in the fourth quarter of a scoreless game, Nutley was on the Westfield 1 and attempted a QB sneak on fourth down which most of the 10,000 overflow record crowd swears to this day was a TD, but the refs disagreed. Westfield came down the field and missed what would have been a game winning streak FG as time expired, and the game ended 0-0.So do I unfortunately. But my Linden Tigers put a scare into them back in 74 when they were ranked #1 in the state I believe. Final was 20-17. Most packed high school football game I ever attended.
