I seem to recall most Ole Miss fans could not get him out of there fast enough.

Anyway, after Bama breaks Masoli in half in two weeks I don't see them winning another SEC game. They are not going to get the ball on the 10 yard line twice every week against most teams.

Does Wayne Madkin still care for MSU.

To this day there are posters here who put him down.

Romaro had the misfortune of being in front of Eli. Can you blame fans for being a little anxious to see what Eli could do?

...sugarcoating what the fans wanted and you know it. It was a lot uglier than fans being "a little anxious to see what Eli could do." Starting QB was Eli's birthright, and Romaro was getting his snaps and Cut was to blame for that. There was a whole lot of ugliness we need not mention that accompanied this.

"Man wide open....CJ Sirmones....TOUCHDOWN!"

"We are likely headed to OVER-time."

"Watch out for the interception here....IT IS INTERCEPTED!"

"He kicked that baby"

"Time to get ol' Scott Westerfield into the game."

"And the Dawg Pound ROCKS"

Memories...like the corner of my mind.

I was at MSU during Madkin's time. I had class with him. I heard the same "nasty stuff" said about him.

And again, to this day, a segment of your fanbase still dogs Madkin. He is only your most successful QB ever and he still doesn't get credit for doing what the coaches needed him to do...manage the game.

Check this thread out...(and there are others)

He didn't lose the Job because Fant was better. He lost his Job because of fan/booster pressure to put the white guy in...

Madkin lost his starting position b/c he wasn't good and people thought Fant couldn't be any worse, which wasnot false as far as Ican remember. Andeven if Fant sucked, why not play the young sucky qb.I'd still like to see how Fantwould have done with a decent team, but I remember how Madkin did with a good team, and he didnot do well. The best you could say is that he wasn't so ****** that the D (with a smidgen of help from Wyatt if necessary) couldn't win games when he played.
You still have posters debating Madkin/Fant to this day. And that's ridiculous.

Tell you what, search "madkin" on sps and see the emotional threads for yourself. There are a ton of threads. Pot=Kettle.

The original poster I responded to said "I would least expect Romaro to still care for the school"...Now do you really buy that? Do you really think he would totally give up on the school he attended and played for because of portion of the fanbase was ready to see Eli? Romaro hangs out in Oxford all the time. As much as you'd like him to hate it, he doesn't. Just like Wayne Madkin still loves Starkville.

And I'm not sugarcoating anything when I say the fans actions were caused by Eli waiting in the wings. Do you think the fans would have felt the same way if some scrub was waiting in the wings? Birthright or not, Eli proved he deserved to be out there. Fant...well not so much.

They're both good guys and better QBs than most people gave them credit for. Glad to see them both continuing to support their schools.

deal with the QB position is beyond hilarious. We have the worst fans in the country when it comes to how we treat QBs. Maybe it's because we never had one.

olemissbydamn, you are wrong on your assessments of Madkin and Fant though. How the process went down, you are fairly accurate.

You definitely have a point about Madkin. I only wish we had to worry about the Miller/Manning QB controversy instead of the Fant/Madkin controversy back then. Two vastly different levels of QBs between us and yall.

The voices of Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreet uttering those phrases will live in infamy.

In all seriousness, I don't even recall which Egg Bowl is so "infamous" that you are referring to.

TSBU.

Hmm...vid quality used to be better than this...I know because I originally captured and edited this, passed it around. Way before the youtube days. Still pisses me off that the StudioDV software I used had this bug about audio dropouts.

He pauses as though he is worried C.J. is going to cut it back or something. He should have easily been able to knock him out at the 1 except for this pause.

This play still makes me happy in pants

No, I don't know the basics. I just didn't remember that one 'til it was described here.

Other basics include Jackie was a king, MSU is on the rise, your stadium restroom doesn't just have a drain in the floor to piss in, etc.

At Emm State, our best QB is always the second stringer, according to our fans. But to equate Madkin to Miller is complete and utter foolishness. They were completely different situations. If we were playing Madkin ahead of John Bond's son or something like that, it might have been slightly different, but even that wouldn't add up. Nobody at Ole Miss except Cut, Miller, and his momma, felt that Miller should be starting ahead of Manning, and there was a lot of ugliness about this, um, Canadian, taking Manning's starting spot. If you don't think this is accurate, you must've had your head in the sand during that time.

...MSU isn't your real rival, right?

You know what game we're talking about. Every Ole Miss fan knows it by heart.

... I seriously didn't remember it, and still after the description only vaguely do. Not trying to be aloof or anything. Sorry to hurt your feelings. I think I was watching it on TV somewhere in the Delta, only now that I know you refer to 1999 and I know where I was that Thanksgiving, and I do remember being pissed off as Hell, but I honestly don't remember a single play or detail.

I remember 2000 because of the Deuce pass to Romaro and remember nothing else about it.

And by "real" rival I mean it hurts when we lose to you because you are such an awful program. We hate losing to LSU, but a lot of times it's no surprise and there's no real shame in it.

It's funny how ANGRY the posters in this thread got about me not remembering their glory. Doesn't mean you aren't our rival or we don't give a **** about you. I simply don't remember anything about that game, while y'all kind of beat off to it.

That seeing the necks tear down the goalposts after a win over a mediocre Ole Miss team made my day.

Thanks.
