The serious "if we have to actually replace Stans" list

Here's a couple of names off the top of my head:

1) Mike Davis (UAB)

2) Chris Collins (Duke)

3) Quinn Snyder (fomer Mizzou)

4) Matt Doherty (former UNC)

5) Bill Kennedy (Murray State)

6) Chris Mooney (Richmond)

7) Dino Gaudio (Wake Forest) - put him on the list but if you look at his resume before WF, it's not impressive at all

8) Tubby Smith

9) Greg Marshall (wichita state)

I probably like Davis and Doherty the best out of that group so far. I'll do a little more research as I don't know much about the coaching staffs at some of the mid-majors or assistants from the UNC and Kansas's of the world. What I think we'd want to look for is someone that's also known as a very good recruiter (or would bring in an assistant who excels at this) but is a better X and O guy and shows more locker room leadership.

There just aren't many coaches out there right now. We can scratch Brad Stevens off the list. The guy from UAB is trouble too. I'd rather us get a smaller school's coach.

If Stansbury leaves right now, it's a bad bad day for MSU.

How is Gaudio not one with an impressive resume? He took Wake to 2 of 3 NCAATs, got them to 1 in the country at one point, won twice as many as he lost, and recruits NBA players.

Seriously, Doherty doesnt make you say his resume is unimpressive, but Gaudio does?!?!

And Tubby? Come the hell on.

I would love to pick off an A10 coach from Xavier, Dayton, or Richmond.
Or Gaudio.

Of course it was Army and it was a pretty good while ago. You're right about Doherty. He would be a horrible hire. I actully like Tubby Smith a lot, but he's not a good recruiter. Agree about the Xavier/Dayton/Richmond option. That would probably be our best bet.

Won at Winthrop, winning at Wichita State, knows the South. Staff has ties throughout the South too.

edit: Winthrop not Wofford.

I'll defend Doherty a little bit - he has the coaching pedigree, he did well at ND his year there. Yes he had one really bad year and I think it just snowballed on him, but he was doing better with a ton of freshmen the next year before it fell apart on him.

I don't think he's a horrible coach and think he would be decent somewhere if he had another opportunity, but I feel the same way about Bob Davie in football so maybe I'd just crazy.

Gaudio only scares me b/c the fan base at WF seemed to really think he wasn't that good of a coach, his record before WF was horrendous and I don't know what his track record with recruiting was at WF. But I also don't think he's a horrible hire.

I really want to study some of these mid-major program coaches (Ohio, Sienna, etc)

Taking what Weber and Painter built and driving it into the ground. And he's a former SIU player, which will make it even harder for them to fire him.

Siena's coach (McCaffery) just left to take the job at Iowa.

Gregg Marshall isn't a bad one.

And I hate the guy but he was pretty good at Bama for the most part - what about Gottfried?

One more - Tim Floyd. Just b/c he's local and I don't care that he just took the UTEP job. I don't think I'd be happy with that hire but wanted to throw out the name.

The Shockers are a big time program. Surethey are in the MVC, and sure they havent been all world the last few years, but they pay great and have a huge loyal following. They arent some mid major in terms of anything but conference.
He would be quite a tough get, from what ive read over the last year.

that some school from a big conference will come along and snag their coach (only because it keeps happening).
Just a thought.

It's impossible to recruit at VMI, but they lead the NCAA in points every year anyway.<div>
</div><div>Every play they sprint down the court and take the first shot they can. Since that's what our team wants to do anyway, might as well have a coach who will teach them how properly.</div>

You guys are always bitching about getting rid of Stans, but I don't recall seeing either of you ever post your suggestions for a replacement. Maybe you have and I missed it.

I am indifferent about Stans leaving in general, but the timing of this is not good with no AD in place.

So I ask you 2, who do we go after since you both obviously spend a lot of time thinking about Stans leaving. Who is your solution?

Pretty please.<div>
</div><div>I watched him at IU and he was absolutely terrible. If you don't like Stan's offense of dribble around and jack up a 3, then wait until you see Davis' offense. </div><div>
</div><div>He is horrible game coach.</div><div>
</div><div>Like I said please hire Mike Davis.</div><div>
</div><div>By the way, I will be stunned if Stansbury actually goes to Clemson.</div>

i like the idea of going after an assistant/associate head coach at a major program. like collins from duke.

any top assistant at a top program should be on our radar. Any Boeheim assistant out there? Kansas assistants???
