Good for Phil

Cunningham is the new coach

Will The Recruiter go there to assist?

It is great to have former assistants coaching D1 ball. If Phil is successful, he could naturally be a candidate for us in the future.

I don't blame him if he never does so much as answer a phone call from the 662 area code ever again.

I'm all for Ray but he really screwed up not keeping Phil and bringing in some of those clowns currently on our staff who do nothing but run laps at practice and bad mouth sponsors.

I like Phil, and I like Marcus Grant too. Unfortunately, I think Phil would have only stayed as an assistant if it were under a proven, known, head coach. Otherwise, he was wanting a shot at the head coach job.

As for Grant...I really wish Ray had kept him on as an assistant, and I think Grant would have definitely done that.

Oh well. I think we are in good shape moving forward. I just hope we mend fences with both Phil and Marcus eventually.

I agree, but at the same time Ray is more experienced than Phil. He could have stayed, and I remember him saying he wish he would have had an opportunity TO stay. When it comes down to it I think Ray: A. Felt threatened by the former staff, in support and hierarchy B. Had 1 former assistant made up in his mind regardless.

He chose Brooks almost entirely on the possibility of keeping Rodney Hood. It might work out well eventually with Williams acting like a volunteer assistant, especially recruiting in and around Jackson, and Ray being a good guard coach with Brooks knowing about big men. Who knows. Only time will tell.

I think phil and Marcus were to stans as Stans was to Williams. So without going into great detail, in order for Ray to "clean up" the program like Scott wanted, both had to go....
