astounds me...

"<font size="2" face="georgia, palatino">A lot of our attack is geared around completing passes and our guys making big plays after the catch in the passing game. As you'll see, a lot of people do that now because it's very difficult to protect against defenses..."

Now let me see if I can break this down.

"</font><font size="2" face="georgia, palatino">A lot of our attack is geared around completing passes <span style="font-weight: bold;">(wow...really?)</span> and our guys making big plays after the catch in the passing game.<span style="font-weight: bold;">(so you're admitting that you basically just rely on lucky breaks to score?)</span> As you'll see, a lot of people do that now because it's very difficult to protect against defenses...<span style="font-weight: bold;">(a lot of people do what, exactly? require luck to be successful?)</span>"</font> <br style="font-weight: bold;">
I mean am I missing something? I realize this is pretty much the same inane drivel he's been spouting for 5 years, but this one makes it sound like he's running out of smoke and mirrors... <br style="font-weight: bold;"> <br style="font-weight: bold;">

it to really sink in and finally came to this conclusion about the comments to Fulmer: "BTW Mr. Fulmer, I have to tell you that I don't really have any kind of handle on just what the hell we're trying to do on offense, and was just wondering if you could help me figure it out....did you see anything at all that you could critique either good or bad about what these boys did tonight??? I'm at a total %#@%*#! loss as what to do, but gee I love my salary."

to describe what we do when we have possession of the ball. Attack means to be aggressive, not punt when you are down 24 with a few minutes left in the 4th quarter.

<font size="2" face="Georgia"><font size="2" face="Georgia">"To be very honest about it, and you've watched enough of our games to know, we don't have great speed. The guys who we thought were going to give us great speed this year, they're all hurt and out for the season. O'Neal Wilder, Robert Elliott and Marcus Green. Those are the three guys we expected coming from spring practice to give us the big play potential but those are the guys who have the speed to really get up the field and win one on one situations.</font></font>
<font size="2" face="Georgia"> so those three guys did what exactly in the spring game to make him believe that they would add "great speed" to the offense so that we could make "big plays"? if I remember correctly the spring game had about as many points in it as the Auburn game.

he executes excuses very well</font>

There is really nothing to break down. All he said is, "you have to catch the ball and then run if the defense doesn't stop you." It's like he's talking to a bunch of 5 year olds sitting on the stoop on sesame street. He really has no respect for the fans at all.

is that every now and then he comes up with and mentions some little secret that nobody knows about except him as far as what's going to happen, but it never happens, it just *%%++$! seems to evaporate into thin air and no more is heard about it.

He played what 3 quarters all season. If he was so detrimental to our success, why did he not play from game 1. As far as I know, he may have been in a series or two against, SELA, part of the 4th quarter against Ga Tech, and then was hurt in the LSU game.

This **** has to stop. I'm tired of us paying millions of dollars to this ******* so he can come up with lame *** excuses. I'm tired of the he's a good man and a man of integrity b/s too. Leaders take responsibility, they don't throw others under the bus. We are handing out Grade A pay for Grade F results. Greg Byrne, now is the time.

I was astounded when he said he didn't care what the fans thought after the Tulane game. The fact is Croom is a typical Bama person who thinks that he's above everyone because he went to Alabama and played for the Bear. He thinks that we should "be fortunate to have him" and the reality is we're the ones that he should be thanking. Croom is just like Polk- he thinks that we are all peons that just show up and know absolutely nothing about football and say mean things about him and his players.

It would be at least a little easier to take this BS if he would at least be respectful to the fans half the time.

If, as he says, they expected Elliot to contribute coming out of spring practice...
Why did it take until the 2nd half of the 2nd game to get him the ball?
Why didn't he touch the ball against Auburn, when NOTHING ELSE was working offensively?
Why did he only have 22 touches through FIVE games if they knew all along he had "big play potential"?

Unbelievable. It's as if he thinks he can say whatever he wants and we're all too stupid to know any better.

We haven't had a receiver give us yards after the catch in the Crooms Error. How in the damn hell can we make big plays? The only patterns we run are the quick slant (which gets tackled right away), the curl and the comeback. We ran one post pattern against UT that was wide open and Tiny overthrew it by 5 yards so we never ran it again. What Crooms doesn't understand, apparently, is that to build a good offense you need reps. There's NO WAY that our QBs can consistently connect on a deep ball when they throw it once every 3 games. Crooms's sorry *** runs this offense so damn tight that we're lucky to get 2 or 3 big plays a SEASON, much less a couple of big plays a game. GO TO HELL CROOMS and you can follow him there as well Byrne if you don't DO YOUR JOB!!!!

is that I've always thought that the West Coast Offense was supposed to be an offense built on a short, quick passing attack using timing routes to allow less talented QBs to have offensive success. However, Croom seems to believe that it's an offense built on establishing the run.

I sometimes think that he gets confused about the difference between the West Coast Offense and the offense he learned under Bear Bryant.

That is what it was under Walsh. Not sure about Crxxm's version. But that is what Crxxm was trying to say. Defenses get to the QB so fast that the QB has to get rid of the ball. Getting rid of the ball quick means short routes. Short routes requires the WR to get YAC in order to get 1st downs and big yardage. Problem is, like he said, we only have about three speed guys and none of them play. So, we throw a 3-5 yard pass and only pick up 3-5 yards. Assuming the pass is completed.

What he is really saying is, I have a good plan but our WRs are to slow. Also, our OL can not protect so we can throw down field. Which both statements are true but are his fault too.

We do have less talented QBs completing a good % of passes. So......

that for receivers to get YAC on short passes, those passes have to hit them in stride. When they have to stop or turn back to catch the ball, that's the end of YAC. A huge part of the WCO is very accurate passing by the QB.

Another problem is there are a lot of people out there claiming to run the WCO that aren't running anything at all like Walsh's offense. One comparison of how many passes Walsh's FB and TE caught and how many ours have caught under Crxxm should be about all you need to see to know we're not, and never have been, running the WCO.
