I'm sorry Desmond, Kirk and especially you 17head Fowler: teams play 12 games. Sec is probably going to a 9 game schedule at some point. Which will leave 3 games.
The math says that even though there are those of us that think a decent (not national title defending) non conference opponent needs to be played a year, that still leaves 2 cupcakes, and there is not one damn thing that will change it.....but they did make a good point.
What if the WEAKER your opponent, the greater the punishment?
Right now, it affects you. Marginally. But I see a day that the punishment for playing the 277th best team in the nation is far more severe as opposed to playing the 100th.
Many more of these 84-0 public beatings and ESPN, who stands to lose more and more because the alternative is that Oklahoma St schedules a more marketable tv game, will start making it the never ending topic on every single gameday broadcast. This will essentially be an attempt to 'embarass' teams into avoiding these games.
I'm telling you. Espn is going to use every bit of their lobbying power to reduce the number of these yawn fest matchups.
What will happen: The first team left out of the top 4 will be unmercifully beaten by ESPN over whatever cupcakes they scheduled.
