I hate to give him credit, but....through 11 games last year compared to this year:

Batting average:

2013: .336
2012: ..292

Runs scored: (Bear in mind we laid a dud against Grambling)

2013: 8.1
2012: 5.3

ERA:

2013: 1.55
2012: 2.18

What about the competition compared to last year at this point? I know we don't really know how good Portland, Purdue and Samford will be, but how good we're Washington St, Kansas, and Connecticut last year?

Without looking up how those teams finished last year, I would have to say the schedules are fairly comparable.

ETA: I figured it up earlier and we have out scored our opponents 89-21 so far this season.

It's a nice look but it will only matter if we see jumps in SEC play. The ERA will be very tough, nearly impossible actually to match so our runs/game HAVE to come up.

If our stats are up in non-conference play over last year, its probably safe to assume the same will be true in conference play.

Yes, common sense dictates that playing the 9 toughest teams in the toughest conference will result in us improving a second best in the nation ERA**

Our 4.3 runs per game will have to jump around half a point based on inflation (higher ERA) to be of any significant improvement. I hope we can produce 5 runs a game in conference play, we will need to in order to have a shot at Omaha.

Why not? We're doing better in pre-conference play both at the plate and on the mound against similar competition. Sure, our conference schedule is brutal this year, but it was brutal last year and it's brutal every year. That's just life in the SEC. I caught some heat in the offseason for saying that our overall pitching staff should be even better this year than it was last year. But it really should be. We have more depth on the staff and some true freshmen from last year that really came on towards the end of the season will have a full year to contribute.

Kansas was 34-24, Wash St was 26-25, and Connecticut was somewhere around 30-27 I believe, my numbers might be a little off as I just looked at all three and I haven't had my coffee yet, not to mention my short term memory is ****. All in all, I'd say our schedule so far is about the same, if not a little tougher this year.

Our non-conference foes may be worse than last year, and our conference foes may be better than last year, but as a whole, its unlikely that the differences don't even themselves out. Our conference schedule was brutal last year as well.

Our pen

has been outstanding, so far. I think they've only given up four earned in over forty innings of work. The freshman, Shelly, has done well with his limited action. He could be a great pitcher down the road.

What I find funny about this thread...

..is when Will James uses data & stats to back his arguments, he practically threatens assault & battery if you dare question the veracity of his math. But if somebody else uses data & stats to back up their arguments, Will James pulls down his pants & uses the bathroom on them.

That's EVERY thread he posts in, not just this one. His word is gold and there's no disagreeing, or else he will spin until you just get tired of debating and finally give up.

My numbers aren't based upon 11 non-con games, but rather entire seasons in our case (with a focus on SEC competition) and ALL OF COLLEGE BASEBALL in Boyd's.

I didn't **** on anybody but pointed out how our ERA numbers probably won't transfer into better SEC ERA numbers from last year because of the competition we play and from not having Stratton.

"Oh our ERA is down from the first 11 games of last year. therefore our SEC ERA will be lower than last year's too" is wrong wrong wrong

We could be undefeated in the CWS waiting to play in the national championship series and Will James would be talking about runs per game.

Give it a break man. We have a chance to have a pretty good season. I do know this. The SEC is tough enough this year that 17-13 might win the league regular season.

2012: LSU (19-11)
2011: USCe/Vandy/Florida (22-8)
2010: Florida (22-8)
2009: LSU/Ole Miss (20-10)
2008: Georgia (20-8)
2007: Vandy (22-8)
2006: Kentucky/Alabama (20-10)
2005: Florida (20-10)
2004: Arkansas/Georgia (19-11)

Will James is just way easier to ridicule

super defensive about his "stats," and will argue with 8 people in the same thread. He often reacts similar to a star trek geek being called a star wars geek.

Let's just be honest... this season has gone about as well as anyone could have possibly imagined up until this point, outside of the nagging injuries to Woody, Renfroe, and Rea. Need better command from our starting pitching and fewer strikeouts with RISP, but that's all in the details...

We are currently:
- country's 2nd-longest win streak
- country's longest win streak this season
- country's most wins this season
- country's 3rd-longest home win streak
- country's 4th best runs/game allowed
- country's 8th best scoring margin
- obviously one of 12 unbeatens left in d1baseball

Offensively, we are most likely somewhere in/near the top 50.

You are the worst baseball poster EVAH. Yes, worse than rugb. Complete and total douche. I wish someone would find you and break your fingers to keep you from typing so the rest of us could enjoy reading the board during baseball season.
