"lack of institutional control" and yet only loses 3 scholarships a year x 3 years. Feel free to discuss.

Oh, one other thing: Bracky Brett must freakin' go.

Whoa... that's not all they got. They got 9 scholarships reduced, 2 year *bowl ban* (in addition to ACC championship), a couple ex basketball coaches have suspensions or show clauses, and they have 3 scholarships reduced in basketball. Let's not conveniently forget the bowls they passed up because of the investigation and pretend like they ONLY lost 9 scholarships. Miami's compliance department and president were proactive but they still paid. It just worked out in their favor.

In my opinion it's pretty close to what USC got. The only difference is the amount of scholarships, and you can attribute that to Miami being proactive and accepting instead of telling the NCAA to shove it like USC did.

While I do think Bracky is a 17ing loser, I'm not going to drag him through the mud on this hypothetical situation. 1) MSU's rich alumni would never consider associating with MSU students so we never have to worry about this happening. 2) MSU fans/alumni/students/whoever would flip their **** at the idea of proactively sitting out bowls and an SEC championship game REGARDLESS if we had to vacate it eventually anyway. Miami did the right thing, but it would never happen at MSU regardless of who has the job.

True. Although, it would be good if Bracky lied to a judge, like Mr. Scruggs did.

I think USC has a major gripe, mostly b/c several Miami decision makers knew about Shapiro, and only became apologetic once they realized the NCAA had them by the gonads.
Even if you do buy the "please have mercy on us, we've punished ourselves" line, going from 30 scholly losses for USC for slightly lesser transgressions to less than 1/3 of that for Miami is way too much.

As cecil hurt pointed out, no one seems to grasp the huge difference between initial schol and total schol. Miami has to play with 82 guys the next three years. No big deal. Usc lost 10 initials for three years meaning they can only sign 15 players each feb for 3 years
Crippling and a HUGE difference
But idiots like joe schad just go throwing numbers around

And "lack of inst control" has never meant much. Programs have gotten it before And got no sanctions

If we paid for an abortion, we would have no program. Keep Will Redmond in mind and lets review...

"In 100 hours of jailhouse interviews during Yahoo! Sports' 11-month investigation, Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro described a sustained, eight-year run of rampant NCAA rule-breaking, some of it with the knowledge or direct participation of at least seven coaches from the Miami football and basketball programs. At a cost that Shapiro estimates in the millions of dollars, he said his benefits to athletes included but were not limited to cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and, on one occasion, an abortion."

We gave ourselves 2 years, 4 scholarships, and suspended Will Redmond for 18 games. Now re-read the quote above. We are woefully inadequate when it comes to protecting the best interest of our recruits and players and you can bet this is being used as a recruiting tool against us.

There's no telling what all he told. But he is serving time because of a bribery attempt:

"Scruggs attempted to bribe Lafayette County Circuit Court Judge Henry Lackey with $50,000 in exchange for a favorable ruling in a dispute with a former business partner over at least $26.5 million in attorneys fees."
