We simply can’t afford to play a road game vs a G5 school going forward. Look for Memphis, Tulane & USM series to be cancelled as well.
We’ll have to play home & home vs a P4 school. But that should be it. And screw Notre Dame, Penn St, ASU & FSU. We need to play Purdue & Boston College. Gsmes we can win at least as often as not.Good deal.
Unless it is something special, say kick off classic verse ND in Ireland, we shouldn't play a non conference game on the road at all.
A home and home verses, ASU, NC State, FSU. PSU, etc., especially the first game of the year, I can live with.
I would love a home and home with ND, they seem to get upset on the reg.
They’ll be replaced by a P4 team. Step up in competition, not down.So so so so stupid. That's self defeating BS. We need to play competition in our off games so we can compete in this league. If you are gonna be ajust get out of the SEC.
I was just using those schools as an example, we need to play one non conf game against decent completion. We’ll have to play home & home vs a P4 school. But that should be it. Washington State a scenic trip? I haven’t been TO Pullman, but I HAVE been on the Palouse. It’s only scenic from the Snake River. Otherwise it’s a hilly Kansas. It’s different, and absolutely beautiful in it‘s own way while passing through. But “PASSING THROUGH“ are the operative words. Y‘all know how I feel about Mike Leach, but what he was able to do there really was spectacular. That place is WAY farther out in the boonies than Starkville.Too bad. Would have been a scenic road trip for our fans and a decent chance for a "W". Now we'll end up playing somebody like Rutgers or Syracuse. Nothing to see up there.
Upstate New York has some beautiful scenery. And Syracuse is only 80 miles from Niagara Falls.Too bad. Would have been a scenic road trip for our fans and a decent chance for a "W". Now we'll end up playing somebody like Rutgers or Syracuse. Nothing to see up there.
Screw that. SEC schedule is going to be plenty brutal enough.I was just using those schools as an example, we need to play one non conf game against decent completion.
I would love to play ND every year in an home and home, though.
The Finger Lakes region is spectacular, and a heck of a lot of fun. we even had a home in home with them back in the 80s.Upstate New York has some beautiful scenery. And Syracuse is only 80 miles from Niagara Falls.
I remember them coming to Starkvegas. IIRCC, we had a home and home with Miami Florida during that time period. The Finger Lakes region is spectacular, and a heck of a lot of fun. we even had a home in home with them back in the 80s.
We did not.I remember them coming to Starkvegas. IIRCC, we had a home and home with Miami Florida during that time period.
lol. We play 9 sec games and have people wanting to schedule a playoff contender in the nonconference. And then will want the coach’s job when he loses to them because we should be able to beat anyone with grit and toughness. Nevermind they have 3 times the money to buy players that we do.Screw that. SEC schedule is going to be plenty brutal enough.
Miami was about two or three years earlier….in other words, the same time period. I graduated in 85, and was a student for one of those Miami games. THE most legendary Johnnie Cooks moment, among many, many… occurred during that home game against Miami, which we won. If you know you know.We did not.
Syracuse series was 85 and 86
Won both
Miami was earlier.
Me and my roommate traded a MSU football tee shirt for a game worn pair of orange bloomers from a Syracuse cheerleader in 1985.
We hung them above our sink in McArthur Dorm the rest of that year and spring of 86
Could not/did not find said cheerleader in Syracuse in Fall of ‘86
Did you sniff them?We did not.

Eiffel Tower!?!?Me and my roommate traded a MSU football tee shirt for a game worn pair of orange bloomers from a Syracuse cheerleader in 1985.
Plenty of stuff in the area within an hour. Better stuff within 2-3 hours.Washington State a scenic trip? I haven’t been TO Pullman, but I HAVE been on the Palouse. Their football program is straight bad now. They're like a 30 pt underdog to OM this week. We're going to be short home games with the new schedule is why we're doing it. Everyone that's in our position will be doing the same.So so so so stupid. That's self defeating BS. We need to play competition in our off games so we can compete in this league. I agree. It had to be something. That was going to be a w. I'd rather play them and win rather than going to asu and lose. Ole miss has this figured out. They play/ed cal, wsu, etc. We schedule tougher non conference.Their football program is straight bad now. They're like a 30 pt underdog to OM this week. Did isn’t the question. How many times is more like it.Did you sniff them?
Alcorn, USM, NIU are pretty bad. You'll see the SEC drop the P4 game soon IMO.I agree. It had to be something. That was going to be a w. I'd rather play them and win rather than going to asu and lose. Ole miss has this figured out. They play/ed cal, wsu, etc. We schedule tougher non conference.
That will be cancelled. But under the 8-game schedule model it made sense.Who is the idiot that scheduled a road game at Troy?
P4 requirement is never going away. It’s just too attractive for TV.Alcorn, USM, NIU are pretty bad. You'll see the SEC drop the P4 game soon IMO.
Oklahoma played at Temple this year.Who is the idiot that scheduled a road game at Troy?
They're already discussing eliminating it with the 9 game schedule. Coaches and ADs don't like it.P4 requirement is never going away. It’s just too attractive for TV.
If you ignore the geographic scenery, nearby US historical sites, nearby museums, and other cultural events and sites…you are correct, there is nothing to see around Rutgers and Syracuse.Too bad. Would have been a scenic road trip for our fans and a decent chance for a "W". Now we'll end up playing somebody like Rutgers or Syracuse. Nothing to see up there.
Correct. It’s the only chance ESPN has to get the Big Ten and it’s the only chance Fox, CBS, NBC, and WBD have to get the SEC.P4 requirement is never going away. It’s just too attractive for TV.
Plus it’s good for and helps the SEC & ACC schools with their in-state rivalry games (UGA/GT, UF/FSU, UK/UL, and SC/Clemson).P4 requirement is never going away. It’s just too attractive for TV.
Yeah, even when Tulane was horrible and the Dome was 3/4 empty, an away game in New Orleans was a treat.Put Tulane on the schedule. Yulman is a good place to watch a game.
As of now they're on the schedule for a home and home. I'd bet money that's cancelled though. Our choices are either a lot of 6 home game schedules or no more road games at G5 schools.Put Tulane on the schedule. Yulman is a good place to watch a game.
So why didn't they eliminate it when they went to 9 games. They're already discussing eliminating it with the 9 game schedule. Coaches and ADs don't like it.
Look for Troy, USM and Tulane to be next on the chopping block. Memphis might survive if we can't do something about the Texas Tech series (I'd be looking to reschedule that road game for another year). Here are the future non-conference opponents courtesy of fbschedules.com:

Obviously, you can remove WSU.
