The way 5A should be ranked after 5 weeks

Would anyone in 5a be better than 3-2 with JCA's schedule?
Montini wouldn’t have lost to Viator or Carmel if that’s what you’re asking. Same for Sterling and a few others. Not sure about Washington only because everywhere you look except rankings they’re showing as 6A now.

Responding to your question

Who in 5A has played anyone of note and beaten them?

Mr. Speed, in all due respect my good man, you always ask questions, then people reply, then you chew them apart for their response. I think you made the right choice in just lurking instead of inquiring. Keep Calm & Love High School football. We should have these shirts made for everyone on the Edgy forums! LOL
Wow. You’ll have to show me an example of that. There have been some incredibly stupid responses to deal with.

I'm not saying that at all. I asked who would have a better record than 3-2. I think Montini and Sterling would have lost to both Marist and IC, so they would also be 3-2.

I would think Montini would be 4-1 based on the JCA lineup. Other than that I cannot give a solid opinion.

No chance they lose to IC.

Good point! I guess I just ignore those stupid comments myself. Continue to exercise your freedom of speech, it adds color to the threads! Peace

Highland has a history of a weak conference. Their nonconference schedule has improved with victories over Belleville East (8A), Alton (7A playoff team), and Marion (5A- briefly ranked before Highland beat them). We will learn little to nothing from the conference schedule except maybe the Mascoutah game (4-1 and votes in 5a). Their starters are usually out by the 4th quarter. Their QB is green but very athletic and has a high football IQ. They have an all state WR in LaPorta and if they ran the ball more, they’d have an all state tailback in Feldmann (they may anyway, even though they are pass heavy).

Their line is smaller than previous years but well coached. Their defense is much improved from last year. They still lack discipline at times and give up long plays.

All of this to say, you okay who you play and the rest is speculation. They may not be 5-0 if they played in a tougher conference. But as mentioned, they also went to the semis last year and lost a relatively close away game in bad conditions (20 degrees with 30mph winds- nightmare for a passing team). They have potential and until proven otherwise, they deserve the AP poll designation.

As for location: 30 miles east of St. Louis on I-70.

Hopefully we will have a chance to see a matchup in the playoffs to tear the OPs theory. I’d love nothing more than to see it disproven, but I don’t know.

Speaking of color. You enjoy that green Kool-Aid. Stop begging for everyone else to have a glass though.

JC and Montini had comparable scores vs Rita. From what I watched, IC and Rita were not even in the same league. There is definitely a chance Montini would lose to IC

And FWIW, JC is most likely is 5-0 with Montini's schedule.

JCA has rushed for at least 200 yards a game except IC game. Even against Marist we had 288 on the ground which against a team like Marist, should stand out. JCA either played reall really good schools or teams with down years so far. This week will be good measure. Then back to the same scenario’s for last three games. Looking forward to Friday.

I agree. Don't underestimate Marmion though. Very disciplined line men do a great job for them.

After the new AP results are out, I feel the rankings are better, but I still don’t know why Antioc is even ranked? I’d be okay with them in the #10 spot and put Naz or MC in there place. Should Washington be ranked #1? Why? They deserve to be ranked, but #1?? What got them there? It sure wasint their schedule or last years results?

Naz isn't 5a and if they were they would be #1

Looks like Washington will be moving to 6A. Really just trying to get some 5A talk going again.

I guess we will see how good Montini is tonight.

It doesn’t count for anything alright. But it does tell you something else!!! Lol

they aint gonna make the playoffs with 5losses... hahaha.
maybe they shoulda used 4-0 and 0-4,hahah.

jca will be a very tough out for anyone if they make the playoffs.
if they beat nd, kaneland wins, a cls beat pr, that could shake up 6a north

Not looking forward to this 5a bracket too much CPL for me. Super diluted bracket I think, Montini will run away with it

Years past I would say your right about Montini and I will even give the edge to Montini with Sterling losing some good athletes, but don’t count Sterling out, especially if they play at home.

The real question should be,,what would all of those teams mentioned here do in the Catholic league blue?? Not 8-0 ,Broncos would rock all of those teams,,,thank you for a kind response.

everyone said it was a down year in the blue, so maybe they go undefeated?

In years past Sterling would go 9-0 and get JCA or Montini in the second round and get beat 42-0 to a 6-3 JCA, But the program has improved on many levels, last year they beat Viator, and MCC in playoffs, so it’s hard to say, but I know for sure they would not be 9-0. I’m betting they will play Montini at some point in the playoffs and we shall see how they fare.

Looks like you may get your shot to play both JCA and Montini unless the IHSA pulls a jerrymander of the top and bottom brackets.
