His Michael Jordan comparison also holds true a fan angle -----> b/c like MJ stans, any show that even remotely threatens The Wire in attention he automatically ***** all over.

[eyeroll]

Breaking Bad is awesome.

GOT might have had a chance up until the last season, but they instead became JJ Reddick.
It wasn’t just the last season. Seasons 1-4 were phenomenal television. Truly must-watch. After that..the show slowly descended into mediocrity. Once D & D ran out of source material, the show was running on fumes.

Never really tried to get into mad men. Worth watching?

Mad men is unique. Almost all the great shows are about cops or gangsters or drug dealers or courtroom scenes etc...so Mad Men is certainly something different. The creator of it was actually a writer for The Sopranos and they used a Sopranos film crew to shoot the pilot episode of Mad Men.

Not saying Mad Men is an all time top 3 show or something like that...but it is really good and the last couple minutes of the final episode is the most perfect ending for a great show I have ever seen.

Did you hate Betty as much as me?

"All three seasons of True Detective are better than The Wire."

Comically bad take.

Wire
Sopranos
Breaking Bad
Mad Men

Those are the top four. Can put them in any order. Plenty of arguments for several shows that can round out #5.

And yes, Six Feet Under is the most underrated series. Best finale ever, not sure anything else comes close.

1 Game of thrones - talking entire body of work this is a masterpiece despite the last season letdown, it was tv gold.

2. Breaking Bad - Nerdy chem teacher gets cancer leading him to becoming supreme drug lord in the US.

3. The Wire -Ahead of its time. So many good characters that you genuinely care about both good and bad.

4. Sopranos- Classic watch it if you haven’t

5. Dexter - 7 seasons of serial killer galore with a clunker last season. Still one of my favorites. The end of season 7 with Dexter, deb, and LaGurta in the shipping container might have been my favorite tv series moment in history.

Honorable mention: Mad Men

Game of Thrones was great for the first few seasons...but wasn't very good the last couple.

Bloodline's first season was incredible, but couldn't sustain. Which is why I don't put GoT in the top five

The last season of GOT was so, so bad. And since the entire show was building up to those moments and the conclusion to all these different stories coming together, and then to completely botch it? Sorry, it's not going to rank up with the best. The ending of The Sopranos ***** over the last two eps of GOT, which is obviously saying something.

i need to do a Wire re-watch. I recall thinking season 4 was about as good as TV can get.

Agree with those who profess the Wire as being unrivaled television. For me, that show changed everything. Admittedly, it was probably the first show I was able to "binge" watch---and, personally, I think that is the best way to watch these types of series. I lose so much waiting for the next week, the next season...that I just eventually tune out. I really enjoy Better Call Saul---especially season 4&5---but I nearly gave it up having to wait. Perhaps that says more about me than the shows, but I prefer the "binging" aspect of these series.

I know its 18 years old, but I'm going through my 3rd watch through with my GF(her first watch) during this pandemic. The show is easily my top TV show of all time. So much phenomenal acting with great story lines every season. Not sure theres a single bad episode. Free right now on HBO.

After this starting The sopranos as I've never seen it. Hoping thats just as good.

Best show ever! The Wire was great.

Finished Season 1 yesterday, hadn’t watched it before. Not sure how I hadn’t watched it prior, excellent show.
Just started season 2, not sure how it’s going to toe the characters from season 1 back into it.

Each season introduces a new set of characters, while still keeping a lot of the mainstays around. Every season has a new industry or service that's affected by the corruption in Baltimore. Chris Bauer and James Ransone are great in this season. But it definitely surprised a lot of people to see the show switch heavily to new characters.

Oh trust me it all comes around. Forgot to mention "Barry" on HBO. It's a dark comedy 30 minute episodes, not going to act like its GOAT TV but its a fun watch with only 2 seasons. Bill Hader plays a funny hitman.

Y’all need to turn off the tv and get outside. The bluebirds got babies. Baby rabbits. Squirrels chasing each other breeding. Fish spawning (screwing). Turkeys gobbling. Woodpeckers pecking. ***** happening in real life sequence. No need to watch reruns. Roma ain’t stopping that. Rant over.

Ok now we talkin’ lol

OG Northern Exposure series is up there w Twin & BB

BUT... unfortunately the original Northern Exposure with the ORIGINAL soundtrack is verrryyyy hard to find.

The re-releases of N.E didnt include the original music bcuz of the crazy music/sound rights. Pissed everybody off that purchased the re-released DVD’s cuz it didnt include the og music which was an integral part of the series.

Didn’t mean to offend anyone with that post above. Of course everyone has different ways to entertain themselves during this time. I’ve got bad cabin fever and was pretty much just being a smartass.
