Any county that is combined should also get a name change that is more modern.

Cyrus County
Farmer County
Clooney County

While we are changing crap for no reason let's quit calling them counties and call them parishes. It sounds much cooler to say I am from Lincoln Parish than Lincoln County.

From above.

Graves and McCracken can be added to the Purchase. Maybe combine Calloway and Marshall and have three counties in the purchase.

Christian and Logan should meet, no more Todd County, or combine Todd and Muhlenberg.

Warren County extends to Tennessee, Simpson and Allen sorry.

We would need to get real busy in Central Kentucky because there's way too many counties there.

Gallatin, Henry and Owen combine.

The four counties around Boone Campbell Grant Pendleton.

And so on.

in the end we keep Robertson County to remind us of how stupid having 120 counties was.
To consolidate counties solely based on geography is stupid.
For example why would you consolidate Simpson into Warren when Simpson is one of the more industrialized counties in the state and has a great tax base to support a county of it's size and population.
Warren is already the fastest growing county in the state it's fine the way it is.
The only counties that should be considered are ones who have to get state funding to support basic county govt functions

Okay. Kentucky has a lot of counties that need to be consolidated.

Let's modernize the transportation standard. Instead of a day's ride on horseback, let's change it to how far a 1997 Ford Ranger will go before it drops another f'ing timing chain.

The big reason for me is education. Ky has over 170 school districts. Consolidation may mean more travel time but much more opportunity for students, particularly in the eastern region, and especially vocational education.
We lost one this year: Silver Grove was absorbed into Campbell County.

My god KY has 120 counties? Virginia “only” has 95 and is about 2400 square miles bigger.

Kentucky was developed mostly by the second sons and the daughters of Virginia. It shouldn't surprise you that there is a tendency to split with that group.

...when a fellow Kentuckian tells me they are from ______ county, I have no idea where the hell that is more than likely.

How do you fix Kentucky’s county problem?

I think they should be reduced immediately to 90. Then bring it down to 60 in 5 years until it finally stops at 30 counties.

No. We should have more counties, Let's say 360, as a minimum.

Campbell is surrounded by water on 3 sides. Natural borders to keep those pesky Kenton people on their side in their misery.

Damn straight. Those 275 bridges have grossly interrupted the severe inbreeding there.

I know all 120 county’s and county seats. I had a seventh grade geography teacher who required you to learn all 120. I thought it was a big waste of time, but today I work in the investment business and we underwrite municipal bonds and everybody I work with is always asking me where someplace is and what part of the state it is located in.

I can't remember a single class I took in 7th grade, much less the lesson content. Hell, I'm not exactly clear on what school I attended that year since I attended so many.
