It's also true that there is plenty of blame for Mullen to shoulder (pun intended) in those two games. In my mind, there are two indefensible calls in those two games that COULD have made the difference in winning and losing.
The first was in the Auburn game it was running on second and goal and Relf getting stopped. Obviously we could have run that on third but you HAD to throw it on second down. Scoring there give us the chance to either go for two or go to overtime. In either case, we still could have lost the game, but the momentum was definitely with us. In fact, I would have kicked it because I don't think they could have stopped us again all day.
The second was the first and goal series against South Carolina where we threw it on first and third down instead of putting Relf in and running it three times, or at least twice. That cost us four points.
The other crap like the QB shuffle, going for it yesterday on 4th and 1, not calling time outs against LSU.....none of that stuff really has had an impact on the outcome of the game. I might not have liked it when it happened, but it was inconsequential in the grand scheme. But the two things above...in my opinion those decisions are the difference in 6-6 and either 7-5 or 8-4, and that's a big, big difference.
And yes, I am counting the Egg Bowl already. If you want to throw it in my face Saturday night, archive it.
