Too bad our players spend too much time eating soy-based products, which produce excess amounts of estrogen.

Seems the old Hit-Hit-Hit-No theory is gone. Everybody goes up there looking for a perfect pitch and can't pull the <17>n trigger. All coaches want hitters to take pitchers deep into the count. I agree that these theories might be the ideal way to approach hitting, but it does tend to make you grow a ******.

Not everyone can be a super selective hitter. Some guys hit way better being aggressive and hitting the ball where it is.

That approach works for some players. But for others, it just makes you tentative.

when you played, everybody seemed to have a .350 average or better. They weren't afraid to use every strike to swing.Nowadays, you can almost smell the estrogen coming from our batters as they look at yet another strike three.

I can understand "working the count" back in the days when your average college team had one good pitcher, one average pitcher, and your #3 is the football team's offensive tackle playing in Left field. Now, almost ALL the pitchers have pretty good control and MState isgoing up there with the same attitude that a Little League Rightfielder has (you know, you go in for your mandatory one inning and one at bat a game, and you're praying for walk).

guys still taking big, full cuts with 2 strikes...

My Dad coached and was a good one, and I always taught his philosophy when I coached:

0 strikes- your looking for the ball in your happy spot- preferable nut level- but where you like it most. If it's not in your happy spot- let it go
1 strike- widen your happy zone- but make sure you are still swinging at a good strike and not something on the black
2 strikes- choke up an inch or two- looking to make contact and drive the ball from gap to gap (Right-center to left-center

Now obviously that's just the basic model and it doesnt include situational hitting, specific counts, or defensive shifts- but you get the idea

Never been a fan of the "take till you get a strike" or "dont swing at curveballs until you get 2 strikes" ...and many of the other kinds of crap you will hear people say
