I swear the average point differential in the prediction thread is 20+ pts. Y'all must be seeing something I'm not.

I will be happy with a win, but I fully expect a loss in the neighborhood of 35-21. We just don't know how to win on the road in the SEC (although we did win our last conference away game).

They let USU linemen utterly dominate the line, and put up over 200 rushing yards. And we are a high powered rushing attack team. I just can't see them standing a chance of keeping up with our offense, even if our defense struggles a bit.

Auburn will be fired up to play... but more along the lines of "whew... we almost got embarrassed last week against a piss-poor team... so let's not do that again" kind of fired up. We will be fired up in a different way... more along the lines of "Auburn pissed us the hell off last year and now we are ready to kick your *** by the vet school" kind of fired up. I think we win this year, but not more than two touchdowns at the most... and that will be because we score one late. I'm thinking a close game and we finish it off at the very end with an exclamation point. <div>
</div><div>This game will boil down to this: We will be more physical, thus more controlling on both lines of scrimmage (particularly against their offensive line). We dominate there, we win. Plain and simple. </div>

and we have it all.

Literally everything is in our favor this week. Early kickoff, experience, momentum, the extra rest, etc. Playing a game like Auburn did last week takes a lot out of a team.

If Mullen does a great job of keeping these guys feet on the ground this past week (which we can only assume he did) theres no way we don't win this game by a couple of TD's. This is our chance to make a statement.

Confidence is something we didn't really have at the beginning of last season. i think now that we have been succesful. we got a different attitude. we expect to win. we had the athletes last year but i think mullen has finally brought that confidence from florida whereour playersexpect to win. our players have seen that we can win. when you see someone come out the week before and struggle against a small school, you should expect to beat them pretty handily. college football is all about emotion and momentum. i think the momentum is in our favor.

after reading the board yesterday, you would have thought we were playing Valley State for homecoming this weekend.....

just have to remind myself, they are the defending national champs, and its on the road in the SEC.....and Malzhan is a genius....and teams typically make the most improvement from weeks 1 to 2....

I know we can win this game.....I just hope Malzhan doesnt pick apart our defense....there were noticeable weaknesses in the run game....

I think we win, and I hope Coach34 is right with his 14 pt prediction....

knows what he is doing and if they have a good day they may simply out score us. I hope we tackle better and I hope we can find a way to put alot of pressure on Trotter. If we do that I like our chances.

We all knew they weren't the best team in the country, but we didn't give a crap. We just rolled with it and acted like we could have won the NL Central. That's how I feel now, except the other shoe is a lot smaller because I really do believe Mullen is one of the best coaches out there, and this team is completely bought in.

How many times last year did we have Auburn in third down and 5+ yards to go? A lot. When the play would break down, Cam would get outside of the pocket and pick up a first down on almost every third down. Trotter does not have that type of ability.

Are we better than Auburn? I sure think so, but the better team does not always win on the road in the SEC.

pick six and a dropped TD pass late in the game. Are we better than we were last year? On offense, yes. On defense I don't know yet. Is Auburn better than they were last year? I don't think so on either side of the ball. Let's play our game and let the chips fall where they may.

I think it's going to be a tight game. I'd love to be wrong and this be the game where we go on the road and whip an SEC team's *** by 20 points, but I don't think we're there just yet.

Reaction to Auburns last game plus a little exagerration, mix in reaction to our game plus a little exagerration, top it off with a burning desire to get revenge for the Cam Newton saga and you have your answer.

Bascially, this particular prediction thread turned into a "here's what I hope happens" thread.

I agree with DS. TOO much wool. I'm not talking any **** this week. And I won't until the clock goes 0:00 Saturday. I think you will have two teams with a lot of talented athletes knocking heads Saturday. And at their place. I expect a close game. Don't get me wrong, I'm confident in this team and this coach. The SEC is just tough. Plain and simple. I like the speak softly, carry a big stick approach.

when you have people fueled by anger asked to make predictions, you'll have some rather outlandish statements. Personally, I love it though... Can you imagine how this board would be if we did beat them 20+?

Cam was theX- factor last year...countless times. Why broom why did you not pick that ball!

I think the whole defending national champs plays some part in us not wanting to believe we are a better team than Auburn

The majority of their starters now have one game worth of experience. ONE! Not to mention many of them are freshman and sophmores. We are experienced and we have depth. Honestly, there is no reason we shouldn't go in there and literally kick their ***!

Yes they have Gus and very talented, highly rated players but we are a veteran team and I fully expect us to show it saturday.

Expecting to win by 20 on the road in the SEC is a little wooly, but I don't think people would be shocked to see state beat UK by 20 on the road this year, and if it weren't for the name on the jersey, I don't think people would be shocked to see state beat the team that played Utah St. last week by 20.

That said, I'm expecting state to win a reasonably close game. If nothing crazy happens with turnovers or scoring by auburn's defense or special teams, I would think state could generally control the game, and pull out a win by 7 to 14 points.

but it's going to be very close. I wouldn't be shocked if we lost. This is a road game in the SEC and it ain't in Oxford. I just don't think we have any real idea what we have yet. Memphis was so bad you can't really get a feel for anything.

They let Utah State run for over 200 yards on them.

They rushed for somewhere around 80 yards.

They had a special teams touchdown, and a miraculous on-side kick.

How do you think a Freshman Center is going to perform staring at Cox and Boyd across the line?

They have decided to 'simplify their defense' this week because all the young players were out of position. Simplify your defense before Dan Mullen comes to town? Good idea.

They've also spent this week with extra hitting drills because they recognize they need to be more physical. Yeah that means they're getting ready to get pounded on. Psychologically they even know it's coming.

Their QB is Barrett Trotter not Cam Newton.

Yes they have Gus calling plays so they will score some points, but they will be overmatched by a much more experienced, ready, and hyped team. Mullen is making this our early season super bowl. I'm expecting Marvin Bure to take someone's head off on the first kickoff.

but I think Auburn - Cam = 4 to 6 win team. Think about the games they would have lost last year if not for Cam, MSU included. Malzahn is a great offensive coach, but there were so many close games last year that shouldn't have been close if they were the best team in the country, and he had freakin' super hero at his disposal at quarterback.

We are no doubt the better team, so I think this comes down to state of mind, which I think Mullen has on lockdown. This team believes they can win. Some of us don't, and that's mainly thepessimism inherent in being a State fan. But as I've stated, I trust Mullen, and I haven't trusted a coach in a long time. Hopefully, he's really changed the mindset of the players. That might take him a little longer with us fans.

That said, I stick with my prediction of 38-17, Dawgs. Might be wishful thinking, and I might be crushed on Saturday at about 2:30, but I'm just happy we're favored in an SEC road game that's not at Kentucky for once.

And you can never take those for granted. That being said I think we win by about 10, 28-17 sounds good. Need to be sure Cox is back tho.

but I don't think he has the weapons to do it. Keep mccaleb off the corners (bottled up inside the numbers), control dyer between the tackles. I don't think their wr's can hurt us unless we blow some assignments. I don't think trotter can hurt us. Our secondary is alot better than usu. No pick 6's or blocked punts and we get it done.

I don't think dan will open it up until he's comfortable with a lead or a possible TO. Then we start opening it up deep and down field plus running it all over the place. I think he heldPerk/Green out last week. Heavy doses of ballard, perk, and ralph early running at 20 different points of attack. If we get a two td lead I think we open it up and that is how we get to 20 plus up.

about a game when the 2 teams involved have comparable talent levels.

Last week:

Team A (27 first downs, 508 total yards)
Team B (20 first downs, 254 total yards)

Yet Team A loses to Team B because the turnover differential was 5-0 in favor of Team B. Of course the game I'm referring to is USF 23 Notre Dame 20. Point is you can push a team all over the field and it still doesn't guarantee a win if you don't do things like take care of the football. I believe we are a better team than Auburn right now because we are much more experienced but that in no way guarantees a win. We can't be making stupid decisions on special teams (like fielding a punt on your own 5 running backwards) or being sloppy with the football on offense and still expect to win especially on the road in the SEC.
