that we might be going back to doubleheader's on Saturday for SEC weekends. Discuss. Good or Bad? Hate it/like it/indifferent?

its really difficult to get up to vegas after work for a friday game, find a place to stay and then catch a sat game and drive home.

This way, you can go up and catch two if you like. I would consider buying season tickets if this happens.

absolutely guaranteed to make me one happy sum *****. With a new coach coming in and the old excitement of the DHs The Dude could be magic again. It lost a little something for me when they went to single games.

Where are you getting your information? I highly doubt that the coaches would vote for this. I could see the Presidents passing it because it would keep the players in the classroom on thursdays and friday mornings.

That being said, I would LOVE to see the return of the Saturday doubleheaders. I think our fans would come out by the thousands for a full day at Dudy. It was always awesome in that first game....winning or losing...that there was another game that day. I am not so sure that the fans at some of these other schools would truly appreciate sitting through a doubleheader....which is fine with me!!!

only by the contemporaneous departures of LT and Polk. Imagine, the return of John Cohen coaching in the first SEC Saturday twinbill at the Dude next March. Now that is the shot in the arm that this sad sack program needs. Desperately.

man those Saturdays used to be so much more electric when we were playing tow games. Crowds would double...I hope it passes...

From a coaching standpoint- not so much.

I love the Friday night games. I've really not known any different, though. Saturday was fun, except for the royal ***-whipping we got handed in game one.

players make more mistakes when tired, BUT, it could be great for regional play, with everyone being used to playing two in a day every weekend.

Regionals have gotten sort of pussified now. Used to if you lost on Friday or Saturday you'd have to play 2 on Sat and 2 on Sun (the second on Sun being the "if necessary" game). Now, they've move the if necessary game to Monday so no team has to play 2 games in a day more than once in a regional.

And if true we definitely need to expand DNF with chairbacks to the Fair Poles. And maybe tier the Left Field Lounge. With a consistently good team, a new coach and Saturday double headers, we should average 9-10k for the SEC weekends

Sounds good to me. Easier on travelling and I'd love to see the atmosphere back like it was.

people like going to their college campus for the day (football game/tailgates). This give a fan the chance to make a full day of the experience in the spring, just like they do in the fall.

Here's how I would like to see them do it-

Single game on Fri. at 6:30 or 7.

DH on Sat. with two 9 inning games Starting at noon. Second game starts 30 min. after conclusion of first game. That was one of the reasons for getting away from it. We would play two 7 inning games and SEC teams had a little bit harder time building pitching depth for the postseason. Also, doing it this way would allow for a make up game or games on Sun. in case of rain.

they did away with it (which Polk championed) was playing on Friday allowed a pitcher that only went 3 innings or so to be available if only for spot duty on Sunday.

They only had the 9 inning game followed by a 7 inning game format for about 4 years. In any case, I'm against going back to Saturday doubleheaders. I always thought they were way overrated and they'll be bad for attendance (despite what a lot of MSU fans think). Crowds have declined because we've mostly sucked the last 7 years, not because of the Fri-Sat-Sun format. No way we'll draw more fans for a Sat DH than we would for Fri-Sat single games.

your sat crowd is always bigger so now you are getting 2 saturday crowds plus all those people who wouldn't come up for either b/c they don't want to see just one game.

And we'll just have to disagree on overrated. I thought they rocked. I remember in 1997, we had to play a DH against LSU and it was overcast and it was still a much better atmosphere than a single game would've been.

No. You'd be substituting two gates (one Fri and one Sat) for one gate. No way the Sat DH gate would be bigger than the combined Fri-Sat single game gates. Unless they went to two separate games on Saturday, in which case there would be at least an hour (and probably longer) between the two games, which would really suck. Not to mention that you'd still wind up with one of the games having a substantially larger attendance than the other so you'd still only have about the same as you would for a Fri-Sat single game schedule.

As for the atmosphere, I guess we will have to disagree. But I will remind you that neither of the two super regional games last June was a DH. If the team's good, the atmoshpere will be great for a single game or a DH. If the team sucks, it won't be very good for either a single game or a DH.

I would assume that the DH ticket will be more. I dont' see Byrne giving away 5 conference gates.

Its always been that way for regionals or SBW. But we were number 1 in the country at the beginning of 05 and I don't think our crowds were near what they were when we were nationally ranked back when we had DHs. I don't think there is any question attendance will go up.

I really think that if the SEC does go to 2 Sat games, it will be 2 single games, probably at something like 2:00 and 7:00. Even if you did increase the DH ticket prices as you suggest, you'd lose attendance for the simple reason that fewer people will pay $20+ for a DH ticket than would pay $12. I don't see any way going to a Sat-Sat-Sun format could possibly be any better than revenue-neutral compared to the current format.

As for the team being ranked #1 a few years ago, that was in March when the weather is cooler and crowds are always down. Crowds never picked up until April back in the old DH days either, even for the Palmeiro-Clark-Brantley teams (although you really had to squeeze to get a big crowd in that old stadium). By the time April came around a few years ago, that #1 ranking was a long faded memory.
