to compete for a national championship. UGa, UNC, S.Car, Fresno, Oregon St have all been in the championship series or won it. We have the fan support and ability to recruit players to be as good as any of these teams.

we play in a badass conference and we arent going to close the gap overnight...We can get back there, but it will take awhile...

It's just easier to win in basketball than it is to win in football and baseball

those guys had about 8 quality guys. We have zero as of now.

Patty Mac had the right idea. He just couldn't recruit enough really good ones.

programs in the SEC. We have huge fan support, frankly better than anyone in the SEC when we are good. If Carolina can compete for a NC (and now win it)...we can. I would never say that about football. It would be an absolute miracle-run season of no injuries and perfect luck for us to be close to a NC in football.

I say if LT was canned ten years ago, then we're already back near the top. But when you let someone run a program
In the ground for so long, it takes a while to get it back up again. But I feel like we definitely have the leadership in our athletic department to make sure we make it back to the top. I'm as pessimistic as the rest sometimes, until i realize who is no longer our AD. If Cohen turns out to flop, could someone else come in and coach up his talented recruiting classes? i.e. Orgeron and nutt?

we have been middle of the pack SEC...

We havent won the West since the SEC expanded in 1992
We havent won the SEC since the 1980's...

Yes, we made regionals- but so did 6-7 other SEC teams every year

# of times to CWS, participation in regionals. Of course, most of that changed in the past 8-10 years.

I have no doubt that someone could come in and coach Cohen's players if they indeed are as good as advertised.

We're an SEC school, with a lot of tradition, history, and a great fanbase. We're also in a great recruiting region- we're in the middle of Florida, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Memphis typically has a lot of talent, and Mississippi as a state does a pretty good job of producing talent for the size of the state. We have very good facilities, and I believe that we will be upgrading them in the very near future. On top of all that, we are willing to pay a coach. Cohen is one of the highest paid coaches in the country.

I think the key is this- finding a guy that can both recruit and coach. (Guru points)

In my opinion, it probably would be best to find someone outside of "the Polk Family Tree".

I honestly can't think of a reason why we couldn't find someone that is a good coach- other than an insane previous coach telling people to not take the job.

If we keep bringing in top 15, top 10 classes, we will eventually amass enough talent that we will be very good. Those players will eventually become juniors and in some cases seniors, and when that happens, we should be an excellent team.

It's a lot easier to coach good players than not. Example- Joe Torre's first job as a manager was with the late 70's Mets. They had people like John Pacella, Ron Hodges, and Pete Falcone. If you've never heard of those people it's because they sucked. In the 90's, Torre ends up with the Yankees with guys like Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte. Now, I'm sure Torre got better as time went on, but with great players, he was able to win a lot more Championships.

Another point about Cohen- his style clashed with the players that he inherited. I'm not making an excuse for anyone when I type that, nor am I saying that Ron Polk's style was wrong, but that is a fact, and that made it difficult for both parties and that hurt the team a lot. But what is also happening is we are bringing in players that fit Cohen's style better. Therefore, they should perform better because they should respond to his style of coaching better than the players that he inherited. If you look at our class, you will notice that many played football in high school. Yelling and cursing is probably not something that they're going to be real worried about. Some of the others that did not play high school football, are considered hard nosed players- which is what Cohen was as a player, and the type of player that he likes.

You have to have four. I say that because that's what happened with LSU last year. Renaudo- first round caliber pick, Coleman- SEC pitcher of the year, Chad <17> Jones in relief, and Matty Ott at closer. Now, they probably burned their arms out doing it.

I do agree that having eight is ideal.

In a perfect world, we would have:

Friday night ACE- Like a Maholm
Very solid Sat. and Sunday guys- 8-10 win guys with sub 4.00 ERA's. Again, bare minimum numbers there.

A solid midweek guy- In case we got into the loser's bracket, and it would also strengthen the bullpen that much more later in the year.

A great closer. That's a must. I prefer the Aaron Weatherford, 100 MPH, filthy breaking ball class.

A LH set up guy and a RH set-up guy.

A submarine guy to eat up an inning or two if a starter gets in trouble to bridge the gap to the bullpen.

Back to the weekend starters- you really need almost two aces like we had with Brantley and Morgan.

I will say this about our pitching- I do not agree with you that we have no one. Chris Stratton is going to be very good. (1>0) We have to find ways to keep our pitchers healthy. (Routt- thanks Butch!, CC Watson, and Ben Bracewell)

Are you David Murray undercover? I've never seen someone that loves to "hear himself write" as much as the two of you, and don't know if I've ever finished either one of your points.

You know, they have treatment for ADHD.

Or you can not read my posts.

I don't really care.

I hope that this was short enough for your tiny brain to handle.

we have a pretty good message board, yet you are a motherfuck.ing moron, and we aren't going to close the gap overnight...we can get there (maybe), but it will take a while. I'm thinking 3-5 years.

It's just easier for you to troll here (bait taken, I know) than for you to have a real life.

Thats such a laugher. GA, SC, and of course LSU have all won the NT. <div>
</div><div>Face it, once all the other schools put just a little bit of emphasis on the sport, and a little money into facilities, we went to the middle of the pack...and now we are at the back.</div>

I didn't realize that but its pretty impressive. Now that they have won the title, they have to be considered an elite program. They also moved into a brand new state of the art facility this year. Looks like LSU, UF, and SC may be separating themselves right now in the SEC.

are what you need...you have got to be able to run 2 guys out there on Fri-Sat that can take over a game...

No doubt that the key is pitching- and we are a long way off from where we need to be..is there at least one quality arm being brought in with this signing class?

are complete reaches.

As for guys that we thought could help us in the field and on the mound, Norris is likely not the instant impact on the mound we once thought and Rea's arm problems will make him a position player as well.

I think some are hoping Bradford and Stark can give us innings, but I will believe that when I see it. These guys were signed as position players and then put up some good numbers on the mound their senior year.

Its a really good positional class. Its a terrible pitching class.
