They all serve a different purpose in the main poll. Who gives a **** what it says just pay attention to the main BCS poll. Calm down chief.

Get off your high 17ing horse. The BCS computer rankings take the highest and lowest ranking from each team and then average out the remaining ranks. The finally score is an average of the Harris Poll, USA Today poll, and Computer ranking. I know how it's done. I am just bringing up the point the the BCS is a poor system. I don't like it like most other people and think there needs to be a payoff. Which hopefully we will have within the next decade.

And, yes, there's a problem with the system when one component of it has Oklahoma St. ranked #1 ahead of both LSU and Bama.

They allweighthingsdifferentlynotnecessarilyalways who is "No.1".
If they're using a component that doesn't at least have the goal of determining who's #1 (and #2, etc.), then it's even worse. That would mean they were INTENTIONALLY trying to rig it to not match up #1 vs. #2 in the title game.

There are 6 polls that contribute to the "Computer Poll" - Jeff Sagarin, Anderson/Hester, Richard Billingsley, Kennith Massey, Dr. Peter Wolfe and the ColleyMatrix. When figuring each teams ranking a teams highest and lowest computer ranking, generated by the polls I just listed, are discarded from the figuring the given teams computer average.<div>
</div><div>Therefore if LSU or Alabama are number one in those polls they get discarded MORE than Oklahoma State does and accumulate less points than Oklahoma State does as a result.</div><div>
</div><div>When they average the Harris Poll, USA Today Coaches Poll and the computer rankings together theyweighthe two human polls, Harris and USA Today, twice as much as the computer poll because of the situation detailed above. This is why Oklahoma State is No. 1 in the computer polls.</div><div>
</div><div>Glad I could help.</div><div>
</div><div>Edited to add: Read this, slowly, it may help -http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/bcs_explained.html</div><div>
</div><div>Exert from the article, trying to make this easy for you -</div><div><p style="text-align: justify; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">III. Computer rankings (1/3rd)
The computer rankings percentage is calculated by dropping the highest and lowest ranking for each team and then dividing the remaining total by 100, the maximum possible points. (Example: the 6 rankers have Team A ranked 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, and 4. Take away the 2 and 4 which leaves an average of 3rd place. The BCS quotient of this component would be0.92. (23 / 25 = 0.92).</p><p style="text-align: justify; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">Peter Wolfe
Wes Colley
Sagarin
Seattle Times
Richard Billingsley
Kenneth Massey</p><p style="text-align: justify; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">Simplifying the formula
The percentage totals of the Harris Interactive Poll, USA Today Poll, and the computer rankings are then averaged. The teams’ averages are ranked to produce the BCS Standings.
A= Team is No. 1 in Harris Poll with all voters = 1.000
B= Same team is No. 1 in Coaches Poll with all voters = 1.000
C= Same team is No. 3 in Computer Rankings = 0.920
Result:(A+B+C)/3 = Total Score of 0.9733</p></div><div>

My point was this whole BCS is a huge cluster 17. I agree with patdog when he said that there is a problem with the inconsistency. You explained it well, I'll give you credit there.

But if the computer polls they're using are ranking Oklahoma St. #1, there'sa 17ing problem with the BCS formula.

BTW, it looks like you are the one who doesn't really understand how it works.

<div>
When they average the Harris Poll, USA Today Coaches Poll and the computer rankings together theyweighthe two human polls, Harris and USA Today, twice as much as the computer poll because of the situation detailed above. This is why Oklahoma State is No. 1 in the computer polls.
No, this is why Bama and LSU are ranked #1 in the BCS poll. The reasonOklahoma St. is ranked #1 in the computer polls is that those polls are 17ed up.This week, the humanpolls are enough to overcome that 17up, and get the right 2 teams ranked#1 and #2 in the BCS poll. That might not be the case every week.</div><div>

That's right, one of the computer polls calculated that a community college was the 30th best team.
