I used to do research and we had a new doctorate student from a muslim country that I was in charge of when he was in the lab. He was expected to put in regular hours at work. I noticed he would disappear early each afternoon. This caused a huge problem with work output, as you can imagine. I found out he was going to the temple to pray to Allah each day for 2 or 3 hours. I went to my boss and told him I'd be taking off 3 hours each afternoon to go shoot basketball because it was my religion. Pretty soon our new guy was working regular hours like everyone else. That was 20 years ago. Fun times.

Sounds like some of the devout followers of the Temple Marlboro that I used to work with, too.

You'd be fired if you did that now.
