Like they should have 30 years ago before I strangle somebody that refuses to get out of the left lane.

Also, don't stop at traffic circles unless there is somebody in it coming at you. There is a reason it's a traffic circle and not a stop sign.

Thanks for listening. It shouldn't be that aggravating getting to work at 5:30 in the morning.

I agee they should move over, but, if you need to speed to make your destination on time, one would think that no, you aren't leaving yourself enough time.

I drive thru Hendo everyday. Stupid *** folk weaving thru traffic, speeding and cutting folks off when you can be anywhere in town to all the way across town in all of 5 minutes following the limits. Their problem isn't slow drivers or poor roads. It's ****** time management skills, impatience and cigarettes.

Smyrna Road to Billtown is a mess

Pretty much 71 to 65 is a mess.

Someone needs to explain to me why traffic backs up from Taylorsville Rd to 64? I know alot of people get off at Taylorsville Rd. Including me. But it's not like there is an immense line of people getting on Gene Snyder from Taylorsville Rd. that would cause it to snarl up like it does.

I agree, a third lane is long overdue and I think it's in the works as we speak. big changes are coming to the 64 and 71 interchanges too. That construction will make for about a 4-5 year long nightmare of course, but hopefully it remedies some things.

Has nothing to do with time management. I wanted to be at work at 6 and was 10 minutes early.

I hope whoever designed those cloverleaf ramps on 71 and 64 found a new line of work. Those are dangerous.

The worst part I deal with these days is from 65 to Smyrna (don't have to deal with the area around 64 going towards 65 anymore). Every single work day you can count on that section to be a mess in the late afternoon. Yet once you get past Smyrna it is usually fine. I don't know if there is really anything that can be done to smooth out the flow of traffic with 2 different directions of 65 merging on to it and the Preston Hwy exit right past it.

Snyder does need a third lane, but that would be a Herculean project at this point. Should’ve been three from the beginning.

I don't know why anyone would want to speed on the Gene Snyder. The cops write so many tickets it probably raises more revenue that the property taxes.

I disagree. There was about a 6 month period 3 or 4 years ago when that was true. I haven't seen a cop other than one going from A to B in years.
65 between the Watterson and the Snyder is another story.

I drive the Snyder from Brownsboro rd to Riverport each day. Awful.

The only thing that makes it easier is I leave for work around 5 am and get home around 4. Miss the multiple traffic jams that start around 4.45 PM.

If I’m remembering right, they’re going to do all this at once:

1. Widen the Snyder from Taylorsville Rd to I-71
2. Widen 71 from Snyder to the Crestwood exit
3. “Fix” the Snyder/64 interchange
4. “Fix” the Snyder/71 interchange.

So. That’s going to be a God awful mess for 4 years. And I live right in the middle of it - no way to get around it. I’m sure it will be much better in every way once done - just as all the bridge work downtown and in the east end and the rerouting/widening that came with it. But that’s going to be a long 4 years......

I thought the plan is to widen 71all the way to LaGrange. That needs to happen but what a traffic mess the construction will cause, even now the traffic becomes stop and go for no reason other than too many vehicles.

No, It really wouldn't be a herculean Project. The median is plenty wide to accommodate the additional lanes without having to blast through hillsides pretty much the entire length of it.

KYTC announces I-71 will be widened from Gene Snyder to Crestwood by 2023

By Amanda Manning
Friday, April 26, 2019 at 1:53 pm
Transportation officials announced the state’s largest transportation project since the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges

The four-year $180 million project, called I-Move Kentucky, combines four road projects in Oldham and Jefferson counties.

Interstate 71 will now be widened to six lanes between Interstate 265 and Crestwood sooner than expected.

“By combining these important transportation projects into one, I-Move will accelerate construction timeline by several years and that’s a big deal,” Kentucky Highway Engineer Andy Barber said.

The widening was originally scheduled to begin in 2026, but will now be completed by November 2023, according to transportation officials.

“Widening 71 from four to six lanes is critical because look at the interstates that feed into Louisville, they’ve all been widened,” Senator Ernie Harris, who represents Oldham County and a portion of Jefferson County, said. “Now it’s our turn to be widened.”

The project also includes widening I-265 to six lanes between Taylorsville Road and Interstate 71.

The interchanges at Interstate 71 and Interstate 265 and Interstate 64 and Interstate 265 will also be remodeled as part of the project......

Meanwhile Lexington has a partially limited access beltline 2 lanes each way mostly) and no interstate going through the city.

I guess they figured the population would peak at 63K
