cell phones, new Samsung Galaxy 8 is listed at $850. No F'ing way I am ever spending nearly $1000 on a cell phone. Haven't they figured out how to make one now?
Also .....forgot iced tea in restaurants ...... $2.19 , total production cost about 6 cents
Simple service items on higher end vehicles like Mercedes and BMWs.
$220 to change the cabin air filter
$185 to change the engine air intake filters
Filters for both are about $25 each and take 10 minutes of labor...maybe 15 minutes for the cabin air filter as it is fidgety.
If you use it, pays to pay more for an inkjet printer. I used to do event timing so I was printing often 100+ pages every week. At first had a cheapo printer and it went through 1 or more ink cartridges every weekend. Went out and paid close to $300 for a high quality printer. Not only did it print much faster, it used about 20% of the ink. Paid for itself pretty quickly.Good pick. It is pretty sad that buying ink for your printer a couple times or even once is damn near as much as the printer itself cost. You might as well just buy a new printer every time your ink runs out. Unfortunately they tend to just give you a sample of ink when you buy them to force you to purchase more ink right away.
Is there any other device that has such a huge cost to operate it compared to the actual cost of buying the device? Here's an example.

In this case it costs more to actually buy the ink the first time than the printer. So why is ink so expensive? Does it come from the blood of an endangered animal? [laughing]

I guess I've become Oldy McOld but the missus was explaining to me that now cell phones don't come free with re-upping with the cell provider.
My response? Who cares. I can talk, text, and take pictures on my phone. I don't need anything else. Nor do I want a new phone.
Of course my dad also once ordered 6 or 8 flipphones off ebay because he said he never wanted to ever have to learn to deal with another phone and he figured that would last him until death, so I get it genetically.
For what I can do with my phone, it's worth every freaking cent.20 years ago we paid $0.10/minute for a long distance phone call. And $50/month for a landline. And probably $100 for the stupid cordless phone in the house.
So put that in perspective. As Hank said, cell phones are amazing.

Already went over this. That $3 isn't for 1 cup of tea, it's for infinity cups of tea. You get refills til that place closes for the night if you want. Where else can you get a deal like that? This kills me.. I've seen some places charge $3, and they aren't even that fancy of establishments. I'll drink water for that price or at least a beer.
IKEA furniture isn't expensive and guess what? It's terrible. If you think it's not labor intensive to build a dresser then by all means go ahead and build one. It'll take you over a week and it'll be horrible when you're done.Furniture.
Considering that I pay $2700 a month between child care and student loans, I would say your graph is spot on.
Agree. I have worked in Higher Ed for 18 years now and have a 2 year old. No way am I leaving Higher Ed before he graduates with the tuition benefits I will get when he is in college.I can say one thing, if you can at all pay for your kids college, do it. Student loans are awful. I'd rather my parents do that then leave me money.
I agree. What're you all printing? I maybe print something 1 time a year. Don't think I've owned a printer since college.
