Well, this made me look in my travel backpack and sure enough, although it's about 5 years since I've been to Malaysia, I still have 50 Ringgits on-hand. I'd carry these in case we got pulled over you handed the police anywhere from 10 to 20 ringgits they would take it and leave immediately. I considered it to be a symbiotic relationship as I had money and they needed money so it worked out just fine.

I didn't know why we were pulled over either time and I sure didn't want to find out what the court system in Malaysia is like. You just give them money and they leave. It's really simple.
