Austin has accepted the job [at Cornell].

I hear that back during the negotiations to stay at Ole Miss, when he
was interviewing for the Kansas job, Houston Nutt negotiated several
key changes in his contract. One was absolute control over all
disciplinary actions in the Ole Miss program, to include suspensions
for such things as failed drug tests, missed classes, minor
altercations and issues with the local constabulary, and such things.
Another was a hands off policy for the administration to get involved
with these things. As a result, there is no longer a mandatory
suspension for 3 failed drug tests, nor is there a mandatory suspension
for missing classes. To his credit, Kent Austin is an honorable man and
believes student athletes should be student athletes. From a credible
source, I hear that Austin was unhappy with what he perceived as the
degradation of the education experience for football players at Ole
Miss, so Austin decided to leave because he couldn't work with Nutt
under those circumstances. Since that "policy prerogative" was conceded
to Nutt, there have been several players who have had 3 or more failed
drug tests, including a freshman of some note, who had 5 by end of
December. The number of missed classes by football players has
increased and the feeling among a couple of the coaches, including Kent
Austin, was that Houston Nutt was letting the inmates run the asylum.
Austin was also upset, that after the Tennessee game a sexual assault
by their WR was covered up, and the player continued to play. He
decided to leave, so began inquiring about jobs, including the La Tech
job. Cornell offers him the chance to be a head coach, plus coach
serious academic strudent athletes.

Now, this is what I have heard from credible sources. I can't say
authoritatively that everything is absolute truth, but my source says
it is.
Classic Fraud. All of the requisite 'good v. evil' references contained within a nice, neat little fabricated package. I hope Fraud will stay on those anti-depressants. Makes for fun reading. This was lifted off a prem bd.

They are both extremely petty individuals. I can't believe some on here defend him when compared to Porter.

vs. evil nutt part, but I do remember that while Nutt was at arkansas, a player had to commit murder to get suspended. I still contend that arkansas had the dirtiest teams that I have ever seen play at Scott field, and that includes some of Jackie's teams.</p>

Neither one will suspend someone they need. Nutt was definitely against the hard and fast suspension rules for missing class and things like that, which is why he doled out a lot of suspensions when we were playing 1AA opponents, even though the cause for the suspension happened months before. There is a balance in there, but you definitely can't go around kicking everyone off your team for every screw up and expect to win or keep a job.

The AD secretly endorsed this. That is why you played two D-II teams in 2009.

This was on Genespage but was posted by a site subscriber. Why blame Gene for this? It was not his information.

We played two 1AA teams because Boone waited on ESPN before trying to schedule our 12th game, and he couldn't get a deal done late in the process. Boone's not that smart to work something out like that for a calculated reason.

loss. Kirk Herbstreet mentioned Dunlap as the possible difference maker the week before the game. I am not so sure Nutt would have done the same, but will admit I don't know for sure.

True, but that's a rarity for Meyer. He doesn't like suspensions or team removals.

Nutt just doesn't like to suspend players especially if they are important. Dexter McCluster could've robbed a bank the night before the Cotton Bowl, and as long as he wasn't in jail at kickoff, Nutt would've played him. That's just the way it is.

Meyer is more concerned with not kicking players off. He'll suspend players more often than Nutt will, but he's got a reputation for being light on discipline as well. I think there is a balance there. You don't want to kick off everyone that screws up, but you don't want to be too light. Nutt is probably too light on discipline, but I prefer too light to being too tough. Orgeron handicapped himself, especially early on, by kicking players off for every little thing. You can't survive like that.

The only reason the fans care is the impact it has on wins and losses. We don't really care about these guys being molded into men or any BS like that. If it's our player, we want leniency. If it's a rival's player, we want them booted if they get a minor in possession.
