My wife and I are graduates of Texas Tech University. We live in Bowie, MD. Last Saturday, we drove over to Morgantown to attend the TTU/WVU football game. First question: Is every point in Morgantown uphill (both ways)? We West Texas flatlanders got a real workout there. At the stadium, we found ourselves surrounded by a sea of blue and gold (a great color combination for this retired Naval officer). We were wearing our red and black Tech hats, shirts, etc. We thought "Oh boy, this is going to be uncomfortable". But my purpose in writing is to tell you how impressed we are by the WVU fans. No heckling, no snide remarks. In fact, we had pleasant conversations with a group of coeds behind us and a group of alums in front of us. They even took the time to explain some of the traditions of Mountaineer week. As for the game . . . I know there was limited space on the team plane, so I think you would have been more impressed if Tech had brought the band and left the defense at home. But you guys just beat us from the get go. Congratulations. Having lost the game, we thought the long walk out of the stadium and back to our car would involve some good natured razzing. But here is where we were even more impressed. As we literally climbed back up out of the stadium, WVU fans reached out to shake our hands. That was nice, but even better was what they were all saying. No rubbing the victory in our face. They said "Thank you for coming to Morgantown. Have a safe trip home". Wow. One of our group is an Ohio State grad. He assured me that is not the usual greeting after a OSU/Michigan game. We were all taken by pleasant surprise. I know this has bee3n an exceptionally long post. Thanks for sticking with it. I just figured this was the best forum to share my favorable impressions of WVU. You can take pride in your fans. Thanks again. My wife and I will make a point of thanking you for coming to Lubbock when we beat you next year."

So much for the old rumors about how badly we treat fans of visiting teams.........
