This game brings up a point I think about from time to time.....

in the regular season, Texas won all their games by an average of 43 to 15. How does your backup not get more work? I understand it's different playing UTEP when you are already up 30 than playing Bama for the national title, but that guy looks beyond uncomfortable.

I'm sure the reasoning behind it involved Colt McCoy's Heisman campaign.

I don't htink there is any way to prepare him for this. I don't know anyone that could handle the kind of pressure that got thrown on him. His experience playing scrub minutes is not good preparation for the title game and Alabama's defense.</p>

He probably wasn't asked to much more than hand it off when he played, and he sure as hell wasn't facing McClain, Arenas and Mt. Cody.

tries to run it up on everybody, just like he did on us in the Cotton Bowl. But he still should be able to figure out a way to get his back-up some snaps.

Maybe it was the Heisman campaign, I don't know.

I'll tell you- I think Dan is smart using a two QB system. If Russell were to go down, at least Relf has a pretty good bit of experience. I remember Greg Plump.

they beat UTEP 64-7. McCoy could have played the first quarter and sat. And you're right, it's not Alabama, but at least it's full speed.

they have been in so many blowouts, how does this kid only have 26 passing attempts on the year? Did they never think of getting a backup more ready than this, just in case.

when your starting qb is a 4 year starter? Why do they not have at least a redshirt frosh or sophomore as a backup? I ask because with a program like UT you would think that qb recruitment and development would be better as far as experience is concerned. Now that is a Croom like recruiting philosphy to me.

Agree - the biggest shocker is that with all their great recruiting their 2nd best QB is a Freshman?

I think they've had enough time to find a backup QB who's not a true freshman.

Basically Texas has not been grooming anyone to be McCoys replacement for the last 3 years. Unless of course they have some junior QBs that just suck and could not beat out the freshman.

Experience and age doesn't always equal talent. He won the job as the backup. Another of the backup quarterbacks was playing wide receiver.
