Granted, the guy in the pic looks like a joke but the principal of the matter is it's their tradition and if they want to keep the colonel, more power to em. I'd personally be flattered if some Ole Miss fans would stand up for us when the day comes we try and get a petition started over cowbells being banned cause let's face it, the day's gonna eventually come.

Their administration is leading the charge on this. Maybe its from outside pressure but its not anything like our cowbell situation.

It would only be similar if our AD was the one helping to get rid of the cowbell... oh wait...

...this has nothing to do with political correctness.

This is all about how far some people are willing to go to in order to make fools of themselves.

My whole thing is it's a tradition killer. How their administration has gotten by with it is amazing considering the amount of people who think it's bs. I'm talking everyday people you know, people you see everyday, people your related to, friends and neighbors. Not a few posters on the internet and what not. We poke fun about it as State fans but the whole thing truly is bs. I suppose Auburn is next and "War Eagle" will be no more because guess what? That also was created based on Cival War lore and legend.

And some of them will sign the petition. They need signatures and they don't care where they come from.

I can't believe that they want the general population to decide this issue for them. This is ridiculous.
I sure as heck would not wish to have the same done for a MSUonly (athletic)issue...
This is OUR STATE!

This could be our operation mayhem. Keeping their fan base fractionalized with their continued infighting reduces donations and will shine a bad light on them in the national media. Also, we point out toall the recruits that they are returning to their plantation ways. Hell, maybe they will be emboldend to bringback the dixie flag after that. What recruit would want to committo such and institution(no matter what they are being paid)? Just a thought. I'll sign it.

National media spin can go a number of ways. Whether it's this, prayer in schools, or anything else, there are always going to be controversial issues to deal with. As for our impact, I don't see us benefiting either way. Let's be real again, how many major recruits have come to MSU because of this issue? HEPPIN > some symbol that a recruit's great great grandparents may have heard of.

Reverand Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton to protest, throw around the "Uncle Tom" term for any commits, then the mayhem master plan is complete!!

I'd sign it in a heartbeat.

Rivals or not. Support for MSU's traditions or not. It needs to be signed, in my opinion. Having the NCAA and a small governing body of a university try and dictate what is and is not appropriate for tens of thousands of fans if not hundreds of thousands is simply ridiculous.

I hope they get their required 100,000.

Kudos to their administration for recognizing this. Col. Reb is an attempt to glorify the good ol' days when the entire Southern marcoeconomy was based on slave labor and onlyprivilegedwhite conservative evangelical Protestant men could have a voice.

While there are certainly plenty of "normal" people who are nostalgic for the Colonel, those who want to "save" him are a tiny minority of mouthbreathers. Do not support this.

I sat in a section of LSU fans at Death Valley one time and one of their fans told me how Ole Miss was his second-favorite SEC team because we "wave dat flag" (which we no longer wave) and then he said "if it was up to me, I wouldn't let n***ers play football." This Colonel Reb Foundation is now on the road trying to get support from exactly those kinds of rival fans.

I grew up with the Colonel and am able to separate his symbolizing Ole Miss from the slavery connotations, but the truth is the rest of the nation will never understand that nuance, so I am glad to see him go. I'm tired of Ole Miss's traditions carrying some flag of the shittier aspects of the Old South for mouthbreathers in other fanbases, too.

There are plenty of great things that Ole Miss and the rest of the SEC symbolize about the South. Slavery and Jim Crow are not among them, or shouldn't be.

Every MSU fan loves cowbells and would be mad if they were banned. Most Ole Miss fans loved the Colonel, but most, including most of that segment, is fine with the logical change of mascot.

The group coming to your campus is not "us." It is a tiny handful of 17ing dorks.
