For the program this might be the most important coaching hire for the program up to this point. We need to sell the division that we are playing in. Think about it coaches are competitors and they love to test out there smarts against the best in the business. Well in our division alone we have Meyer, Harbaugh, and Dantonio along with franklin who is a great recruiter. This is a great selling point for a big time head coach. Now we know what schiano can do, he would be a good fit with Rutgers he would bring a toughness and discipline back to the team. We would be good defensively which would be a sight for sore eyes and he would be even more effectively recruiting than he was in the big east, imagine the recruiting battles he would have between the previously mentioned coaches in this thread!! Hell him and franklin would have epic battles. But also we can use this stance to go out and make a home run hire that could catch the whole college football world by surprise and go after Richt. I know Richt is a long shot but if money wont be an issue lets put our money where our mouth is and swing for the fences. Richt would jump at the chance to coach against meyer, harbaugh, and dantonio especially meyer after his battles he had with him when meyer was at florida. My gut feeling says its going to be schiano which i am not against at all. With his new found experience from the nfl i think he full understands that you cant have your hands on everything so i believe he would let his coordinators do their thing but step in when he is asked to or when he feels the need to (defensively). But make no mistake about it Rutgers is in a spot to hit a homerun with this hire lets see how it plays out.

Agree, either one would do great recruiting here. Schiano never had a stable conference to recruit from. I also think he should have more money to hire better assistants never when he was here last. We are only a few years away from a B1G bump in income.

Yup! I think greg would kill it in the B1G. He showed he can recruit with the best of them when he was in the big east. Yes he had an ego when he was here last but when he went to the nfl i believe he realized he's not as smart as he thinks he is so he needs to let the coaches do the jobs they were hired to do. I also wouldn't be against retaining McDaniels i saw some things that i liked this year but his hands were tied by someone who's name i wont mention....
