He will leave at some point, but the two options available to him right now - LSU and Florida - are so dysfunctional I’m not sure either are capable of getting a deal done for someone of his caliber. And the family trips to Gainesville and Baton Rouge were so clumsily executed, it has the look of the best Kiffin troll job ever.
Ha! With the right coach and a portal hall both those "dysfunctional" programs could be in the playoffs next year. If it was flipped that would be a bridge too far for Ole Miss(that is if Ole Miss program was dysfunctional looking for a coach).....that's the difference.

Don't confuse your Johnny come lately with one coach as if you are now on the same foundation as upper tier SEC programs. As soon as he leaves and the schedule changes life will change.

I'm even interested to see him stay after you blow your money trying to match his salary, trying to keep NIL flowing and the schedule gets a little more challenging.

That's called burning bridges.....risky endeavor if you are a CFB coach.
Yeah. Lane is leaving. I don't think he was nearly as anxious to get out as Mullen was and I think he would have been happy to stay at UM for another couple of years until the right job opened up. But these are just too good for him to turn both down.

Blah, Blah, Blah......Every year it's basically the same story - hope, then crash & burn, apathy, basketball distraction, hope for an NCAA win which never comes, then the baseball season starts. The cycle can't be broken so saith the Injun spirits. Wait until next year that is forever elusive.

Of course it’s a setup. This kind of crap is what they do . Perception is all that matters to them. I don’t care one way or the other, like Jerry Seinfeld, it will even out . It will, won’t it?🙏

He can only sign with one of the 3. And I think that will be burning bridges with other 2, and they will be his enemies for years to come. If I were LSU and Florida, I would go ahead and sign a new coach from somewhere, if possible. It doesn't seem fair to keep all 3 schools in limbo. Greed, greed, greed and me, myself, and I in full bloom.

We are getting slaughtered. There is no scenario that won’t happen in. The only interest in the Egg Bowl for me is to see how Lebby finds a new way to show his ignorance.

Anybody who can win 10 games at a Mississippi school (much less repeatedly) deserves being fawned over.
Anybody with a schedule as easy as he has had the last two years should win 10 games ....how Many big games has he won ? Certainly not enough to get to a conference championship game

I checked the other day. He’s right at .500 vs top 25 teams at Mississippi. And with 1 game to go he’s 1 of 3 coaches with a chance to make the SECCG.

I talked to a buddy of mine that works in their athletic department. I won’t say what he told me because he would be easily identified. Long story short, they expect him to re-sign with Ole Miss, and now I do too. Lane and Keith Carter are thick as thieves right now.

That’s what I was told yesterday. The feeling I got was that they’re mildly annoyed, but putting up with his antics because they badly want to retain him. He’s privately making a lot of assurances within their athletic department.

But to be fair, private promises aren’t worth much in coaching negotiations, so we’ll see. My guy is very confident he’ll be back at OM.

It’s honestly pretty fascinating to see this whole thing play out. Never have seen a coach get swooned like this from two different very powerful schools and then turn on them and stay put which is what I’m thinking he does. To go to the lengths of actually sending your family very publicly to both just to troll them is next level.

I don’t think even he would do it go troll. He’s a guy who wants to leave and advance his career but is scared the grass may not be greener.

Im expecting Dan Mullen to come parachuting in and sucker punching Lebby, taking over, and then running read option with KT and beating the webels by 60.

and "Ms Megan" to go down the line of players and kiss every one of them on the mouth as they trot onto the field.

Kiffin may end up staying. Who knows? But if I worked in the UM athletic department like your friend does, there is no possible way I would tell anyone anything any different than what your friend said, no matter who I was talking to.

I dont understand why everybody is so infatuated with Lanes decision on employment. I mean it is interesting but it has zero effect on the Egg Bowl. Its delusional to think OM will suspend him at any point. He may leave but it will be after the season. Thinking he is going to leave next week and the football team will fall apart and Lebby will win is insane.
Maybe I'm missing the comments, but I haven't seen anyone saying he won't coach the Egg Bowl. I think it's a given that he will. However, if even one player gets a little distracted with all the Lane shitt, that's good. That actually might affect their preparation for the game next week if we get lucky. I certainly felt that it affected our coach and team those years Dan was in the news.

Speaking for myself, I'm enjoying the chaos over there and it's absolutely schadenfraude... Meaning, I want ole miss to lose and be miserable today and forever, so anything that causes them to be distracted or angry is good for me because that can positively impact Mississippi State, my alma mater. I want us to win. I want us to have any advantage we can. I'll never be sorry about that. 17EM.

Kiffin is the guy who found a crack in the rules where he could have players blatantly fake an injury to stop the clock without a timeout. He exploited the situation until the rules had to be changed. He looks for strategic advantages and likes to push the limits. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

If he is trolling LSU and UF, it will end up making OM look good (like a destination job), Either way it's a weird situation,

Lane obviously likes a show. Most of us would have loved it if Mullen had trolled UF and TN and came back. It would have made MSU look better. Perception = ratings and growing your brand. Who knows his motivation.

I think you might be correct in that he THINKS it will make OM look good.

In reality, it will make everyone in the nation who has been following this story have two clear thoughts:

1. "What the 17 is wrong with this guy?"; and
2. "Well, that was fun to watch for a minute, kind of like a slow motion train wreck, but now that that fun is over, who the hell cares where Lane 17'ing Kiffin coaches. Guess I'll get back to work now."

It's not nearly as big a deal as Lane thinks it is, and it will in NO way trick anyone into thinking ole-17ing-miss is a destination job.

Think about it this way. If the Arizona State coach was getting wooed by, say USC and Miami and was acting like a 15 year old on Twitter - I would probably tune in with an eyebrow raised for a few days just to see how it plays out. The fans of Arizona would watch with special interest in that they hate ASU and wish ill on their football team. But once it was announced where he was staying/going, none of us would give a shitt and it surely wouldn't all of a sudden make Arizona State into a destination job. And no matter what your friends with a condo off the square, the Clarion-Ledger, or Southern Gay Digest tell you, Oxford is no Tempe, Arizona.

If I'm Keith Carter, I'd feel a whole lot better about things if Kiffin has signed that contract extension. He wouldn't be the first AD surprised to find out Kiffin had left. One things for sure, at this point if he doesn't leave, he may never get a look from one of the true elite programs again.

Why would he never get a look again ? I would imagine he will continue to be successful and would be just as in demand two or five years from now

I have a hard to believing that he is genuinely just trolling these programs and wasting their time with no intention of leaving Ole Miss. I am fairly sure that would be tortious at worst and unprecedentedly out of bounds at best. I don’t think Jimmy Sexton would let him do that.

It's a much bigger deal than you're willing to admit. Lane Kiffin is a national brand. He is one of the most well-known college football coaches in the country. Stephen A. Smith was talking about him this morning. There is a front page article on ESPN.com about how Kiffin shouldn't leave Ole Miss. He had a documentary that aired on ESPN. If he stays at Ole Miss, he's going to be there a long time and they are going to keep winning. He's is good at getting in the national spotlight, which means Ole Miss gets in the national spotlight, which means they look very attractive to recruits and portal transfers, which means they will continue to be in the top half of the SEC.

Yup. College Athletics has a really short memory made shorter by winning (or losing).
Hugh Freeze was dead in the water in 2016, seven years later he is the HC of a top half SEC program.
Hell, if Heupel burns out in 2 years TN would take Lane back in a heartbeat if he is still winning 10 at OM.

If he jerks Florida and LSU along this long just to say, nah I think I'll stay here, I think a lot of programs are going to think why should I waste my time.

Why does ole miss pay the Clarion-Ledger when they can just come to SixPacks Peak and get helpful marketing material for free.

You can bury your head in the sand all you want, but very few college football coaches get front page articles on ESPN.com basically begging them to stay at their current school. I can’t stand the guy, but he is a really good coach and has taken OM to heights they haven’t seen in a long time. If he stays at OM, we better get our schitt together because they are going to keep winning.

With ESPN now weighing in on the Lane Kiffin deal, I expect him to sign with Ole Miss very quickly.

After the playoffs are over, all bets are off on what he does.
