I have never gone throught that level of analysis. But pretty much everything you said describes Jackson and Memphis or any other major city in the southeast.
I dont understand what the infatuation is with New Orleans. Yes, it is very similar to the cities listed above, which is why I dont understand why people think it is so great. All 3 of those cities suck, and I live in (near) one of them.

Katrina has no bearing on my decision to cheer for a football team. Maybe I should cheer for the Jets in rememberance of 9/11.

I wasn't raised to be a Saints fan first of all. So, they started off with a clean slate with me.

So, since I didn't care about the Saints either way, I became annoyed that their ****** games were what we were forced to watch every Sunday. I eventually grew to hold against them their perpetual shittiness that was robbing me of watching a decent NFC game every week. This wasn't enough to make me hate them, but it made me not like them.

When Saints fans would find out I disliked the Saints, they would react like I was a bad person. Because I live one state over from a team, I'm expected to support that team? What the hell sense does that make? Not to mention that the Titans and Falcons are roughly the same distance away (I'm from Starkville). The Saints represent New Orleans and to a large extent Louisiana. They do not represent Mississippi. You can like them if you want to, but you aren't some kind of traitor if you choose another team.

Then, they drafted Deuce McAllister and had Aaron Brooks and Joe Horn on their team. I would never have liked any team whose offense featured those three players, and considering I already disliked them, it made it easy to hate them.

Then I got to college and a year or two into it, the Saints got good. All of a sudden everyone and their mother is a Saints fan. So, the goodwill they would have garnered for getting rid of Aaron Brooks and Joe Horn is more than nullified by my distaste for the Saints bandwagon around campus.

They also have hideously ugly uniforms, just to put the icing on the cake.

So, that's why I'm not going for them. The only team I would cheer for them against is unfortunately one of their potential Super Bowl opponents, the Jets.

I grew up in North Alabama. The closest team in distance was the Falcons, since Tennessee was still Houston until later on down the line. I personally couldnt stand the Falcons because everyone and their mother were Falcons fans (until Houston became Tennessee of course). Will you be a Saints fan if they move to New Mexico?

As a child, I didnt have a favorite football team and did not want to follow everyone else with the Falcons so I took a compilation of all of my Starting lineups, put their helmets in a hat and drew one out. I have been an Eagles fan ever since. It would be dumb as an adult, but since I was a kid and have been an Eagles fan for about 15-20 years now, I dont think it matters.

By the way, being an Eagles fan hasnt been much fun. We sucked for most of the late 80's and early 90's. And the only thing worse than knowing your team sucks, is thinking your team is pretty good; only to lose in the NFC Championship game 3 straight times and when finally making it to the Super Bowl, your franchise player throws up on himself.</p>

Drawing a team out of a hat as a child... good to go.

Rooting for a team based on proximity, as in you always get them on TV, always get them on the radio, and love going to the city they play in.... you don't buy it?

You are an odd man.

the fact that no one in the 17ing media bothers to mention Katrina hit Mississippi, too. No, all the attention is about 17ing New Orleans and how that armpit of a city is recovering. Not a word about the recovery in MS. Not a word that the thing came ashore centered up in Waveland. Nope, it's all about New Orleans.

I am sure they have been allot of places.....some were in the dome. Some were in Westwego? Some were in Brandon? Not sure what you are asking? But it sounds like you are saying the saints fan base has grown 90% this year...which is C34 ridiculous.

I have been a Saints,Braves, and MSU fan since birth and there are allot of Mississippians in that boat. When/If MSU has a season similar to the 09-10 Saints, would you not expect for there to be a surge in support? Would that also upset you?

I will be pounding Dome Foam in section 316 and avoiding any and all thoughts of the Monday morning consequences.

Do "walk on" fans count against our total number of allowed fans? What about gray shirt fans? Is there anyway we could sign and place a few?

If that was the case, then I would be a Redskins fans.

I was born in DC, but the first football team I remember and the team I've always been a fan is the Dallas Cowboys.

But, I'm going to be a Vikings fan for one day - Sunday. haha

This is the age of technology. I can watch any team I please on any Sunday. It has nothing to do with where I live. I only listen to the radio if I am in the car and if my team is playing, I dont go anywhere.

I may not get to go to Philly every weekend, but I would imagine not too many of you people have been to New Orleans to a Saints game every weekend either.

I grew up in Starkville, too, and I've never understood State fans lining up to root for the Saints, what with Archie Manning and Deuce McCallister.

As recently as 2006, 75% of the Falcons backfield was from MSU: Norwood, Griffith, and McCrary.

Go FARRve.

And more about that in 2005, we were an injury away from this guy as our QB...

This picture perfectly depicts the direction of the Saints in 2005. Thank God for golf-cart driving raccoons.

I don't see a real reason that you could dislike the Saints. If you're from Mississippi, then they represent the south well. Geaux Saints!!! Choke on a 17ing fat one Vikings...

And if you think the worst franchise in the history of the NFL represents Mississippi ... wait ... you might have a point there.

Worst to first, huh?

Just a reminder that most everything you saw in N.O. was the result of dubmassedry and was essentially a human disaster, not a natural disaster. Doesn't lessen the suffering, but it's a good reminder of why people being dubmasses (especially politicians and voters) is a bad idea. If you didn't get to see the difference between N.O. (which experienced category 1 & 2 winds) and the places actually hit by Katrina like SE La and South MS, it would probably be hard to fathom the difference.

is because every Sunday I came home from Church - the Saints were on TV. It's that simple. They are central and south MS's local team.

Also, my dad was one of the first people to sit in the Superdome when it was completed.

I guess I'm dating myself a little. Tons of reasonsto pull for the Saints-Murphy's Law of the NFL (who doesthis remind you off?), regional influence, Katrina, huge following in Jackson, the "Dome", and a few other factors. HOWEVER, during my younger days dealing with the Rebs on Sat. and their favorite proteam the Saints on Sunday just wore me down. Forcade (I think he was from LA)and theshadow of Archie still haunts me. My school mateswoulddeal me grief sporting the #4jersey on Mondaywould rotate with the Saints jersey.I really want to pull for the Saints but still have scars. Who was the last Stateproduct that played for the Saints-JamesWilliams (LB)? Thisreally shouldn'tmatter but it sure would make it easier. Go New York/Vikings?
